Yeah, I didn't see that and I am a Longhorns fan. I think everybody will be disappointed if Gilbert ends up having to come in and play but what's new? Anybody who threatens Dak is no bueno. Been this way in Dallas since the day Jimmy left the building. Lets definitely go back to the days of having to depend on guys like Weedon etc.

Get a real backup in here. We don't even know if Dak is resigning here or if he comes back 100% and we have fans that want Gilbert as the backup. I don't get it. This is dumb football to me.

Longhorn fan as well and while things did not work out at Texas, he played much better at SMU. Now I do expect Dak to be back and fully recovered I can't do anything about those who feel different or want Dak gone period. I am giving my view not playing to the Dak critics crowd. I think most Backups are guys who have some experience, who can step in at a moments notice and play decent ball. Gilbert did that vs Steelers with little time to practice as a Cowboy. I would not bring him in to be a starter but as a backup, guys with the talent to be starters will cost. By the way what is a real backup? lol This is a dumb statement to me.

But you don't know that. And this whole, fans who don't want Dak back crap is just that. This is not about Dak. This is about making plans that are in the best interest of the team and from what I saw, Gilbert is not that.

Gilbert threw for just a little above 50% and 243 yards on 21 completions. That's like just above 5 yards per completion. That's not good at all. But whatever, this is what the Cowboys do I guess.

I think fans will be sorry if it ends up being Gilbert who has to come in off the bench.

I'm giving Dalton a certain offer as a bit higher than average backup to stay,..and if that doesn't work out then i'm moving on to the Ryan Fizpatrick, Gale Gilbert, Colt McCoy, and Brandon Allen of the FA world.

Dalton is free to test the FA market ( dry market ?) or accept our FA offer to remain a backup role player.

Dalton already signed with Denver for like 10 mil.

BS there are many before Dak got hurt that did not want him here, Gilbert played decent vs the #1 defense at the time and did so with very little time in the system. I'm not looking for a high dollar backup, if Dalton chooses to stay at a low rate great I go with him. You think people will be sorry I don't. I'm not expecting greatness out of the backup I expect them to hold down the fort with decent play and at a cost that does no prevent other areas to be addressed.

With the OL coming back healthy, including Smith, Martin and Collins, let Dak walk and draft a QB. This will allow MM an off-season with Moore to implement some West Coast concepts with a QB that’s played in one pretty much his whole career. Not really a hard decision.

Is that true? An article from yesterday has him signing with the Colts, since Rivers announced his retirement. I think these were reductions by Vegas and Analytics groups, not that its actually happened yet.

Surprising that guys that actually know QBs would want Dalton based on all the resident Dak-stans claiming him garbage.

So what, what does that have to do with who our backup qb is? Gilbert played so well that he never got off the bench again. Yeah, sell this to the next sucker, I'm not buying. But whatever, like I said, this is how this team operates so I'm not surprised.

I saw that reported earlier. I don't know that the deal is inked yet but I guess nothing is final till the ink is dry right? But yeah, I agree with you. Dalton would be following Luck and then Rivers. Not too shabby. He could do really well there.

Im not selling anything, You had a guy with very limited time and went out there and played well vs a very good pitt team. You are entitled to you views, that is fine and I am entitled to mine. You want to be insulting all the time, fine I can play that game as well.

He played well? Yeah, that's opinion, it 's yours, it's not mine. The numbers I posted earlier are not good. It does not represent "played well". That's your opinion only. If you find that insulting, that sucks for you but it's still true. You don't have to like it, I'm not asking you to. I'm just telling you the way it is.

So play whatever game you want but don't complain when you get told the truth. Bring it.

I agree the Cowboys weren't going to be a legitimate playoff team, but I think the NFL would have frowned heavily on the team not giving its best shot while still in the playoff hunt, and there may have been repercussions .
They didn’t frown on the eagles for the most obvious tank ever
I think with Gilbert we could have ended up with just about same record
But if nothing else we could have found out if he was a viable backup
Denucci is far from ready but too soon to give up on the kid
If we sign a vet then only one of the others will be here

I think Gilbert played well enough to get another look
I’m not saying he’s starter material but I would have liked to have seen more to see if he could be a viable backup
The team went with dalton because of his experience and had we had a viable playoff team that would have been the right move. But we didn’t so I’d rather have seen if we had a backup option

Would have been nice to see him play some of those poor teams we played later in the year.

I don't know if you have that game taped or not but if you do, go back and watch it again. Tell me if you think he played well after you rewatch it.

Given dalton's body of work this year, i can't imagine any team would consider signing him as a starter. Backup, sure.
