Cornerback is probably one of our top needs but other than rankings I don't know that much about Farley. Do you know what his strengths are?

Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley enters the NFL after playing quarterback in high school, beginning his college career as a wide receiver, and then transitioning to defense where he shined as a cornerback for the Hokies in 2019. While he is new to the position, his film does not resemble a player that is still learning the ropes. Farley brings a rare blend of physical traits to the table in terms of size, length, quickness, fluidity, and athleticism that he pairs with exceptional man coverage skills that make him an exciting NFL prospect. Not only is he sticky in man coverage, Farley has game-changing ball skills and is an alpha in coverage. Unfortunately, his injury history is concerning. Farley suffered a non-contact ACL tear in 2017 that forced him to miss the season and then missed the last two games in 2019 due to back spasms, an issue Justin Fuente said Farley dealt with all season long. When it comes to on-the-field issues, Farley is a fairly complete prospect that is clearly ascending but sharpening his zone coverage skills would be beneficial. Additionally, he needs to develop his tackling technique to decrease an alarming amount of whiffs on tape. Farley has a full toolbox of traits to develop into a shutdown corner at the next level that can create takeaways.

Ideal Role: Starting outside cornerback

Scheme Fit: Schemes that feature large amounts of press and man coverage

I think hes the best corner coming out in the last years.

I think people are sleeping on moehrig too much. If he went to lsu people would hype him as a top 20 or higher pick guaranteed. People wanted xavier mckinney at 17 lol. If he runs good hes a first rounder

I'm fine with Farley at 10. If we come away with him, Surtain or Parsons, I'd consider that acceptable.

Given these rankings, I'd try to trade down to around 15 and get either Surtain or Moehrig, then trade up to the top of the second for Nixon.

Surely, someone in the mid-teens is going to want one of the QBs.

Only 2 defensive players in this top 10.
That's why I have no problem taking Slater, Pitts or Fields if he drops .

If Slater and Sewell are there and they take an OT, I would take Sewell. I do not like any evaluation of an offensive lineman that starts with "undersized" and proceeds to "He doesn't have elite power to knock back defenders over his nose". This sounds like Connor Williams and if Tyron Smith plays, then my 1st round pick OT has got to play inside taking Williams' place until Tyron retires.

But it is way early and once we get past the combine, the projections will change. I am more interested in how the DTs look. If Nixon, Onwuzurike, or Barmore gives us 35-40 reps in the bench press we are going to start thinking of that guy at #10. I am curious about Marlon Tuipulotu out of USC. I saw him play a couple of games, certainly not a 1st round pick, but could be the equivalent of Gallimore. If he drops to round 3, he might be a good pick there.

If Pitts is there we have to draft him at 10. He improves the one weakness we have on offense the Redzone, with our two tight end set up defenses won’t know if we are passing or running, we can trade Gallup and the second pick to get back into the first round, and finally you just take the best player at 10.

I dont know if you I would go TE with #10. It just seems you have better shot with TE 2-4 as you do with that one weird one that has a 1st round grade.

Interestingly enough, that evaluation doesn't sound a lot different then Tyron's did coming out of USC.

2011 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Tyron Smith

Strengths:
  • Excellent pass blocker
  • Long arms
  • Athletic and displays good balance
  • Moves well laterally
  • Quick off snap
  • Gets to the second level effectively
  • Left tackle potential
  • Plenty of upside

    Weaknesses:
  • Not a powerful, driving run blocker
  • Could use more lower body strength
  • Must prove he can be effective after putting on weight
  • Only two years experience - both at right tackle
  • Suspended one game (academic)

If Pitts is there you have to consider him. He is a top 5 prospect. You talking about a possible situation like we had with CeeDee last draft. I am a fan of Surtain and rank him way ahead of Chaisson but Pitts is a game changer at tight end. Nobody can cover him.
