Trade Scenario: Dak and the 10th pick for Watson and Watt

Get Watt to restructure to make the numbers work for cap purposes. Upgrade the QB position and the d-line.

Problem #1 - Dak has no trade value at this point. He can't pass a physical due to a horrific injury, is not under contract, and wants $35-40M.year with a guaranteed $110M.

Problem #2 - JJ Watt might be calling it quits according to those around him. Watt is just not that good any more and injury prone.

Problem #3 - Texans want at least three #1 picks for Watson. No, Dak is not worth two #1 picks. Not even in anyone's wildest hallucinations.

I will gladly give up Dak, Zeke, and Cooper for Watson. But, the Texans would laugh at that offer.

Watson is never carrying a team to the SB! Horrible passer and a lot of the same issues Dak has.

Based on what? Show me the stats/metrics that support your claim.

Dak Completion% Yards TDs INTs Record
2018 66.7 3324 22 13 10-6
2019 65.1 4902 22 8 8-8

DeShaun
2018 68.3 4165 26 9 11-5
2019 67.3 3852 26 12 10-5

I pulled stats of Dak and DeShaun over two years when both played a full season (and please note that Watson missed a game in 2019). In 2017, Watson started only six games; and, of course, this past year, Dak got injured. So I tossed those seasons.

This is a better head-to-head match up. As you can see by the stats, DeShaun's completion rate was better; he and Dak split in the number of yards thrown; DeShaun threw more touchdown passes than Dak; they're split on interceptions throw each year, but DeShaun carried his team to a better record.

So, by these stats, DeShaun has an edge on Dak.

And then there's the eye and common logic test. How many football people say Watson is a transcendent player? I've heard several people say this, former players and even Watson's college coaches and his former pro coach. Now, how many people have you heard say Dak is a transcendent talent?

Dak is a good quarterback, but he's not in DeShaun's league as a passer or as a runner.

You said Deshaun was “MUCH better”. These stats don’t bear that out.

You’ve also got your numbers wrong. Dak had 22 pass TDs/8 ints in 2018, and 30 pass TDs/11 ints in 2019. He added 6 TDs on the ground in 2018, and 3 in 2019 (he had 22/13/6 in 2017).

Deshaun had 5 ground TDs in 2018, and 7 in 2019, making his TD totals 31 & 33 (compared to Dak’s 28 & 33). Slight edge Watson.

Dak lost 3 fumbles in 2018 and 5 in 2019, making his total TOs 11 & 16. Deshaun lost 6 in 2018 and 5 in 2019, making his TOs 15 & 17. Slight edge Dak.

All the existing metrics show that Dak and Deshaun are basically the same player.

Deshaun Watson Team Record 2018 and 2019 21 Wins 10 Losses .677 Win %

Dak Prescott Team Record 2018 and 2019 18 Wins 14 Losses .563 Win %

Deshaun was winning.....Dak not as much.....that is what matters.

Dak and Deshaun are the same player, so I don’t see that as an upgrade. I’d much rather sign Dak and use 10 on a young defender. Watt is not who he used to be.

Watt is a injury prone, due to steroid usage. It wears on the tendons and ligaments.

No thank you.

Why would Watson or Watt want to come to this mess either
I personally would not want Watt. He is just a name at this point that flashes from time to time.

Watson at least would have talent at WR. But quite frankly there is not much difference between Watson and Dak. I have Watson as the 4th best QB and Dak as the 5th best in the NFL.

Why take on Watson's massive contract and give up the tenth overall pick just to do so?

No matter how you look at it, it's better to just re-sign Dak, even for similar money, and keep the first round pick.

Why would Houston do this? Supposedly they can get 3 firsts plus for Watson alone. Why would Dak want to go to Houston if Watson wants out? Why would the Cowboys do this if Dak and Watson are basically the same player. Houston has no plans to trade Watson and have him locked into a 5 year contract. The media is trying to push this trade for clicks. Stop posting crap off the internet.

Watson had like a 33-7 TD-pick ratio last year and Houston went 4-12. Dak went 2-3 under similar circumstances (no defensive support).

I value Watson a little higher than Dak simply because he is more mobile and hasn’t had the weapons Dak has had. Unless this deal was because Dak wanted out and wouldn’t sign, I would not do it. Watt is at the end of the road and has really sacrificed his body. We would be losing our #10 pick just to improve slightly at QB, probably. Our defense would still suck. I’m not making any deals that leave us without a round 1 pick. That’s a pick we can trade out of for multiple selections. Our priority needs to be improving the defense....period.

Nuances. He's a better passer than Dak. Is that better? ;)

You’ve also got your numbers wrong. Dak had 22 pass TDs/8 ints in 2018, and 30 pass TDs/11 ints in 2019. He added 6 TDs on the ground in 2018, and 3 in 2019 (he had 22/13/6 in 2017).

Yeah, I did get it mixed up. Nevertheless, Watson still edges him. I'm not counting running TDs because I said first he was a better passer. Running TDs don't really say much because Dak could have carried it in from the 1 yard line. I think Watson is smoother and quicker as a runner than Dak, but that may be because Dak is more solidly built that Dak. That's why I say he's a better runner. Dak really doesn't like to run.

Dak lost 3 fumbles in 2018 and 5 in 2019, making his total TOs 11 & 16. Deshaun lost 6 in 2018 and 5 in 2019, making his TOs 15 & 17. Slight edge Dak.

I'm not considering fumbles because they don't measure a quarterback's PASSING ability.

All the existing metrics show that Dak and Deshaun are basically the same player.

No, they don't. I hesitated to even respond to your post because passing yardage can be skewed based on game situation. Dak has had to lead comebacks, which skews his yardage. Romo and Dak had better years passing than Aikman, for example. But few are going to argue that either were better than Aikman.

Be that as it may, few if any consider Dak a transcendent player. Many consider DeShaun a transcendent player.

However, we may simply have to agree to disagree. I'm not really interested in a protracted argument about who is the best.

So, peace.

That, my friend, is insane. Watson is not that much better. And we would still stink with a lousy defense, questions on the OL, and no #1 receiver. I like Watson a little better than Dak, but I’m never making that deal. Based on the new coach in Houston, he only accepted the job under the premise that Watson is the QB. I don’t see that changing.

Please stop this insanity.

Madden is a former head coach and announcer for the NFL. That is reality.

Madden by EA Sports is a game and not reality.

If you wish to live in a fantasy world, rent a movie.

Watson can’t carry a team. He is no Mahomes. I would take him at vet minimum.

What is insane is that we can't get out of the Zeke and Cooper contracts this year. Next year we can. That makes the value of Zeke and Cooper much less. Dak with the injury and ridiculous contract demands drives way down his value.

I don't think the Texans would ever accept Dak, Zeke, and Cooper for Watson. Those three players while good are not worth the contracts that come with them.
