Trade Scenario: Dak and the 10th pick for Watson and Watt

I personally would not want Watt. He is just a name at this point that flashes from time to time.

Watson at least would have talent at WR. But quite frankly there is not much difference between Watson and Dak. I have Watson as the 4th best QB and Dak as the 5th best in the NFL.
They're basically the same, Watson has better legs. I like Daks deep ball better. They're both sketchy on ball placement. I think Dak is built better for the long haul.

Get Watt to restructure to make the numbers work fo cap purposes. Upgrade the QB position and the d-line.
Watt would be a guy that would command respect instantly and lead.. Watson has elite escapability but doesnt make his reads and throws as accurate/timely as he should. I will take Dak.

I don't see Watson as an upgrade and Watt is old. I would take a chance at a DE with the draft pick or an OL at that draft pick over Watt. But at best that's a downgrade for us and probably worse salary wise.

Dak and Deshaun are the same player, so I don’t see that as an upgrade. I’d much rather sign Dak and use 10 on a young defender. Watt is not who he used to be.
Deshaun's arm talent is superior to Dak. Deshaun's speed is superior to Dak

The Rams appear to be giving up a boat load for Stafford. Shows what little respect Goff has.

Unless he has a no trade clause, he has no control.

He can decline to sign the tag until June or July like he did last year. By then no one would have the cap to trade for a $37 million tag. He would have no incentive to sign the tag to facilitate a trade unless he likes the proposed destination.

The Cowboys aren't gaining on the QB position, losing their 1st round pick and getting Watt who's contract is up after the 2021 season so it could just be a 1 year rental for a player who has only played an entire season twice in the last 5 years averaging missing 9 games a season.

You are a prime candidate for what Gil Brandt said a couple years after leaving the Cowboys on player values.

He said there are 4 values for all players.

1. The value a team puts on a player and what the least they would accept in trade for him.
2. The value the other 31 teams place on that player and the most they would give up to trade for him.
3. The value fans of the team with the player and what the team should get for trading him.
4. The value the fans of other teams have for that player and what they think their team should give up for that player.

Brandt went on to say that the values of #3 and #4 seldom if never are the same as the values of #1 and #2.

What he was saying is fans should stop trying to be GM's.

Why would Dak agree to go to the Texans? I think fans forget that in a trade scenario, Dak also has control on where he goes; if not more control than Watson.

That is only true if Prescott hasn't signed a tag offer. If he's signed it he has zero control who the Cowboys decide to trade a player on their roster. They won't do it, but that is how Prescott would have no control. Watson has control because he has a no trade clause in his contract and even though he has asked for a trade he won't release from that clause if it's to a team he doesn't want to go to.

No it doesn't.
A tag means zero.
He still can't be moved until he signs the tag and by then it means a team is trading for one year of control with no reasonable means to tag him again.

No one on these boards should be confused here. Dallas has no real leverage and even Jerry Jones is telling you this.
No team who has seem him medically is going to make a major move for him and he has no reason to go seek that out unless Dallas makes him an URFA.

Dallas has a ton of leverage if they do choose to use it. Just make Dak an URFA. Dak likely won’t be able to pass a physical until June (my guess), definitely not before the draft. No team is offering Dak big money before the draft since Dak can’t pass a physical. After FA and the draft, teams won’t have the money to pay Dak what he wants and teams will already have shored up their QB position. Jerry could always match any offer Dak would get if some team would take the risk.

Good luck trying to get $35-40M per year with $110M guaranteed on a 5 year contract, let alone a 4 year contract, with the cap at $180M. Throw in questionable talent and can’t pass a physical.

My only concern is that Jerry is too kind and loyal at the expense of the team and the fans and will sign Dak to the highest contract ever with no competition.

LOL good joke.

You'd have to give Dak and your 2021 1st and another 1st (maybe if you are lucky a 2nd) for Watson alone.

Watson >> Prescott.
Especially with the deal Watson is on.

Did you see what the Rams had to give up to get rid of Goff ? This set the market for Prescott.

No, no, no. lol.
Dallas has near zero leverage and making Dak an UDFA makes it literally zero.

Dak doesn't miss a single paycheck until week 1.
He doesn't need to sign right now or even March 15th.
Dallas is the one with the pressure cooker of the salary cap.

On a free market Dak would get paid a TON. TON of money.
As a free agent he doesn't have to pass a physical just submit all his medical records for perusal CURRENTLY. --this was a COVID adjustment.

Given what the Rams just paid in trade costs to take a flier on Stafford the amount of money some team would throw at Dak in a money only deal? Sheesh. Off the charts.
What Dak might have to take is a deal focused more on roster bonuses as opposed to day 1 GTD in this case.
But the numbers would still be insane.

It'd take 50M year 1 to get a meeting IMHO. --with 40M AAV over 4 years to 45AAV over 5.
And for that Dallas would get a R3 comp provided they don't sign more free agents of value than they lose.
Which basically means they'd have to slow pay free agency like last year and/or take the lower end of QB market. Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Andy Dalton.

The Colts have over 60M in cap space and need a QB but little else.

No one wants out of the Cooper deal. He’s earning his money and is not overpaid.
Zeke is another matter.

Yup, this is about right.

Watson has
+raw arm strength
+speed
+elusiveness/quickness

Dak
+accuracy/touch (especially deep)
+quicker through reads
+footwork
