He probably won't make the HoF but he should. He's an amazing QB but he was surrounded by trash for a good amount of years (no, not everyone). The fact that he didn't win a super bowl, which is a team accomplishment, will be the main thing holding him back.

Without winning championships a QB best bet is longevity career stats , MVP awards or leading the league in passing, etc.

Romo didn’t check any of these boxes.

Only started 9 1/2 seasons and several weren’t full seasons. 06, 10, and 15 all partial seasons . He basically only had 7 full seasons. An abbreviated career cut short by injuries.
Not a HOF career.

Usually when this subject comes up, there's always someone who argues that Danny White was better because he took us to 3 NFC Championship games, although losing all 3. I think Romo was a better QB than D. White. But, what do I know. o_O

Nothing new here that we haven’t already discussed re: Jesse Holley’s take.

He’s wrong about Romo being a HoF player, btw. That’s new. Romo will get in eventually as an all-around person once his broadcasting career is done, and rightly so.

He’s wrong about the 2016 playoffs, too, but, you know, he’s entitled to a wrong opinion here and there.

As for Garrett, I say again: you guys saw what happened when we went to McCarthy. The team and the coaching decisions both got worse. Defend that noise all you like, but it’s obvious, and it’s true.
Because fat garrett is trash means real garrett isn't? Interesting. Why is this the second receiver that basically said Romo was the real playcaller? Dodge that lol

There’s not a man on this planet not a Cowboy fan that would consider Romo for the HOF.

He brought some excitement and spark to the Cowboys when we couldn’t have needed it more.

And he propped basically a bottom feeder franchise into a relevant and interesting team when he was healthy.

On Tony in 2016, he didn't even give Dak nod. He clearly thought Romo would have been better, and could have taken us all the way.

Also like the comments about Tony changing plays and being held back by Garrett. I do wonder if Tony was still making the game plan in 2016, like Butler said Tony was doing previous seasons. He was going to be QB again until he broke, wouldn't they also have planned for him to make the game plans again? And after breaking, why change that?
Who said Tony was putting together the gameplan? Butler who?

Yes yes Jesse. The cowboys would have been in the lead against the packers. Even with the defense allowing a TD the first 3 possessions.

The question of that 2016 playoff game is the ultimate what if barroom discussion.

Something I never thought of before, but Dez was curb stomping the Packer's CBs in Dez "I'm Just Better Than You" style. Probably the last game of his career that he did that.

Romo would have *definitely* been a better QB to take advantage of Dez against weak CBs. I don't know how far we go in the playoffs, but Romo+Dez against the GB corners is a much better matchup than Dak+Dez.

I'm not complaining about Dak's play in the game. Thought he played well. But Romo and Dez against weak CBs is killer.

Romo audibled out more than most QB’s which is speculated to be about 40-60% pending the team.

But it was Garrett’s offense which was Romo friendly. And while Romo was a raw improv playmaking talent we did see him evolve over the years as more of a pocket passer

Even Romo gave some credit to Garrett and Wilson for his development and progress over the years.

@Idgit
I know, i know, Jesse is jealous or just doesnt like Garrett. Yes, this is a Garrett hate thread but Romo could've been a contender if Jerry gave him a real coach.

Love Romo, but i dont think he is a HOFer. Maybe its just me, but the HOF should be reserved for the very best players of their generation. Romo was great, but he wasnt ever elite.

He was good enough to be a HOFer, but he’s not a HOFer and won’t be. Didn’t have the huge longevity numbers nor the Super Bowl ring.

Nope. These are the QBs from his era who are not locks but still have a better chance over him:

Philip Rivers
Matt Ryan
Eli Manning (the 2 SBs plus playing for the NY media give him more of a chance over Romo)

If Matt Stafford has a strong finish to his career with some postseason success then he will rank ahead of him too.

Maybe when he's an old man as a legacy guy, but compared to other hall of fame guys in the modern era he lacks rings, pro bowls, and all-pros. Guys in a similar position Boomer Eiason, Drew Bledsoe, Phil Simms, Randall Cunningham, Drew Bledsoe, Rich Gannon, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick.

When you look at those names anyone jump off the charts that says they should definitely be in? Personally, Romo was a very good QB, fun to watch sans the playoffs, but not to the level of many of the greats.

With no Super Bowl rings Romo is not making it into the Hall Of Fame. I don't think he was good enough anyway. But, if he keeps up his work on CBS, can he make it to the HoF as an announcer someday?

I believe Romo will make the HOF based off being a very popular Cowboys member and QB,...and some padded passing numbers.
and he will be right there on the color host broadcast to always remind the voters.
HOF Voters will have shortest path to most recent memories than the late 60's and 70's...

I love the guy, but don't think he should be in the HOF. If he could have played a couple of seasons with Zeke and the Oline at its peak, he might have amassed the credentials, but injuries proved to be his undoing. But, it sure worked out fine for him anyway.
