Byron Jones is still an above average NFL CB. Paired with Xavien Howard, Miami has arguably the best CB duo in the NFL. Is he worth his contract? Well, that’s what fans debate about every year for many players. But of course, no one ever says a player deserves a bonus if they over perform.

A good friend of mine comes over every weekend for football and he’s a Dolphins fan. I probably watch more Dolphins games than I want to admit. That said, Byron Jones coverage is exactly what he was in Dallas. He doesn’t see many targets bc of his coverage ability, although he did have two, you’d like to see more INTs. (Sound familiar)

Bryon did give up a higher yards-per-completion this year, but there’s a number of different factors to this. As one poster already mentioned, he only gave up roughly 4 passes a game. With that in mind, the opposition frequently schemed plays to isolate Jones and avoid Howard. It also didn’t help that Miami has similar problems at Safety as the Cowboys do. Since releasing Rashad Jones, Miami has relied on two CB converted safeties in Eric Rowe and Bobby McCain. Neither of these players were reliable and average at best. And word is, McCain may be a cap causality. Basically, Jones didn’t have much help on the back end of the defense.

The only difference in Cowboys Byron and Miami Byron.. is the significant percentage of missed tackles last season. Jones missed 19.6% of tackles in 2020. (2019- 2.1%; 2018- 5.6%) The missed tackles played a big part in his increased YPC. He gave up a career high of 373 YAC. I must also mention, Miami’s defense as a whole had a problem with missed tackles, so it’s fair to assume it might be a scheme issue.

I’ll repeat what I told my friend when I found out Jones signed with Miami...”I would have loved to have Bryon back, but not at that price”. I’m not against paying players, but Bryon should be playing like his teammate, Xavien, for me to justify the contract he signed.

Totally ridiculous. Jones was Jones in Miami. He was not even close to the worst starter in the league. If he was, Miami would not have had the 6th rated pass defense, as the article claims. QBs would have picked on him relentlessly.

It seems anyone can write a blog and get their opinion circulated these days.

Can’t be!! The same Jones people on here and national media clowned us for not paying $80 Million!! Lol

As I’ve always said— he was always average to me. Sometimes guys who are young and stay out of trouble cash out in free agency because of need. Doesn’t mean they’re stars.

Wish a couple of Cowboys who did happen to get big contracts were on other teams. Be happy to Byron back instead.

Maybe the Jones, got these two correct. Jones allowed 10.6 yards per target and 17.6 yards per completion, both worst among starting cornerbacks in 2020. Ouch. The best move the Boys made was letting Garrett walk.
I don’t see a big improvement with MM replacing Garrett. I saw a lot of the same failures and screw-ups with MM coaching the team. I think Garrett could have done just as well, if not better if he was still HC.

Didn't watch much if any Dolphins games, but I know Byron was good in Dallas, and they got much worse when he left. So, don't trash BJ too much cause no CBs on the roster are better than him at the moment (maybe future Diggs maybe).

He was good because teams picked on Awuzie, Lewis and Brown.

Seems to me Jones and Dak are both facing the same narrative: both top players at their positions but are they WORTH top money? Short answer: yup. Is this feasible salary cap wise? That i dont know.

4.5 targets a game means he's giving up 47.7 yards per game to the oppositions #1 though right? I didn't watch him, but also didn't hear he was stinking up the joint either.

All of Byron's Advanced Stats are significantly worse than the last two years with us. YAC looks particularly grim, which is odd given his speed and size.

I don't think he's a bum. He was a good player for us, and was very good covering TEs. But Miami has got to be disappointed.

LOL, i wouldn't gloat about it if i was one of the Jones'. We seem to have a team full of these. If i had to pick one, i would be far fetched to figure out who deserves that title.
