If Gregory gets 13 sacks, that will be 6 in one and 7 in another and 0 in 15. He is inconsistent. Or he shows up against poor OL.

I will not concern myself over it until 2022 off season. Even then I will not waste brain cells on it. Either he is signed or he moves on.
Maybe another wasted year of not using Anae will do him good to sit and watch.

Would love to have the problem that the guy turns into a stud in 2021 and needs to be paid.

I am not good with the salary cap, so i want some input.

Gregory is signed for 2021. If he comes out with 13+sacks, which is entirely possible, how much cap space will the cowboys have to sign him and what would they have to pay him?

If they spend money on dak and bring in high priced free agents would there be enough left for Gregory, Gallup, and any other players they need to sign?

Dlaw and Gregory is a good combo. Gregory is still only 28 with little wear on his body
If Randy has a monster year he is going to get paid a small fortune and that's OK.
Dallas has made some bone-headed mgmt decisions but keeping Randy around this long has been smart and letting everyone go who has one monster year at DE has also been smart.
They would then get another R3/R4 comp is Randy leaves and can draft an edge in that same range.

Yessir!
Also the reality is if Randy is playing well after working at a Home Depot a year ago my guess is you could extend him by week 5/6 with team friendly terms provided you came with security for his family.

I like watching him play. I hope he has a monster year and stays.

Gregory, as a human being, owes the Jones family thanks. As a player, he owes them squat. Football, is a business, and regardless of what fans think, it would be a business decision.

So, it's not enough that people are freaking out over 2021 cap, FA, draft and QB. You want to worry about 2022??

Gregory
Emmanuel Ogbah (Age 28, 6'4", 270) signed a two year, $15 million contract with the Dolphins. Ogbah received $7.5 million in guarantees.
Leonard Floyd (Age 29, 6'6", 244) signed a one year, $10 million contract with the Rams. Floyd's entire contract is fully guaranteed. The final two years of the contract are voidable.

Gregory will be 29 this next season, and comes with certain amounts of risk, so I would imagine somewhere around Ogbah's and Floyd's deals. Throw in Jerry receiving criticism for drafting Gregory, and the deal could be even higher.

Regarding paying Dak and/or bringing in high-priced free agents, the last few years our moves have been motivated by Stephen's cheapness and this false belief that Will McClay is clever. Neither approach has an ounce of validity to it, but this team has to be proven dead wrong beyond all reasonable doubt before they shift philosophies. Stephen seems shocked that Dak (and other free agents) aren't willing to play for significantly less for the honor of being a Dallas Cowboy. While he is correct that being a Dallas Cowboy gives you an additional opportunity in regards to endorsements and marketability, he is absolutely out of his mind to ask players to take less money.

It's too bad too. The NFC East is ripe to be dominated by the Cowboys. We're too busy trying to prove the Jones' family are smart football people rather than focusing on getting better.

Let's start with this

13 sacks for Gregory is not entirely possible..it's extremely unlikely
13 seems high but if he can finally play 16 games (17 maybe), and the Cowboys get some DT's that can actually do their job, I can see Gregory flirting with double digits.

Big difference between flirting w double digits and getting 13

Agreed.

Would you be happy with 10 sacks from Gregory? Or view it as a success?

This team has trotted Tyrone Crawford at weakside Edge the past few years and then acts surprised that we have a horrible pass defense.

Give me the kid who can bring some pressure.

Gregory owes Jerry big time so even with a 13 sack season he won't get a huge contract

After a 13 sack season, Gregory is probably the top non-QB free agent next year. The contract would be huge.

If we want some loyalty discount, we should extend Gregory this offseason while there's more doubt about his future value. I expect that to happen.

If we wait until Gregory proves himself and his market value is clear, there won't be much room for a discount.

Gregory and Gallup are due for extensions right now. Not after next season. No good GM waits for their player to play out their contract unless they intend to let them go into free agency. You either sign or trade them the year prior to their last season under contract.
*Decide* now. That decision can also be to let them play out the year and wave goodbye. Final year trades have to exceed comp pick value, with some premium, to make sense.

But yes, decide in the year *before*. Not only is that when you still have leverage, it also lets you plan your snaps for the year accordingly. If a guy isn't part of our future, there is less reason to play him.

I expect we let Gallup play out the year and wave goodbye. Doubt we could get much premium on his likely comp pick value now. Last time to trade him was after the end of game heroics when Dak went down.

Problem with Gregory is , is that he is undependable.
Anything you get out of him has to be treated like Icing on the cake.

Yeah I saw 3.5 sacks in 8 games..Great pace to reach 13

He didnt play a full season in 2018
didnt play at all in 2019
No offseason or training camp in 2020 and missed 6 games

He only had 3.5 sacks, but he was getting close
He played 10 games, and he will have a full football offseason/training camp, and should look as good as he has ever looked
This is his shot for a big payday

Dlaw had a 14.5 sack season before his paycheck
and he will be pushing the qb towards Gregory, it will be a race

13 is not out of the ballpark
