Who is we?
Hard pass for a TE or WR in the first round. Not even debatable. When you have the worst defense in the history of the franchise you don’t draft a 4th WR or TE in the first round.

Outside of a Randy Moss player it’s a hard pass.

Some people never learn the NFL isn’t Madden.
Thank god you're not in charge of the draft.
Yes. Let's pass up a blue chip TE/WR that we will have a need for when Gallup or Cooper is gone for defense that can be found in the 2nd round with not much of a talent drop off.
I don't want a defense full of Taco Charltons when I can get Travis Kelce.

I'm not so sure another team pays him enough in FA to get the 3rd round pick compensation. Maybe a single 4th. Dunno.

Its close, but if not then I'd say there's a shot they can afford to keep him. Cuts both ways.

I'd absolutely shop Gallup and if they draft Pitts I'd shop both current TE's but only trade 1.

Thank god you aren't either.
Neglecting our biggest needs in order to protect from something that may not happen. Even if we lost 1 of the 3 WR's our receiver group would still be better than our secondary and DT group.

You want another Evan Engram instead of another Aaron Donald I guess (see how stupid it sounds when someone needs to reach for extremes to attempt to make a weak point). I can do it to.

If he leaves as a free agent, then the Cowboys could get a comp pick depending on how much he gets paid by his new team. My guess is they get no more than a 4th for him. It also depends on whether or not the Cowboys sign any free agents. If the Cowboys do sign free agent, depending on how much they pay him, it could reduce or eliminate the comp pick Dallas would get for Gallup.

To me, Gallup is a receiver who is complementary. He runs those sideline routes about as well as anyone and he makes those contested catches when the ball is thrown his way. He will never be a #1, but I am assuming Cooper will be in that role, and then Lamb is they lose Cooper for any reason.

The last draft was deep in WRs and this one will be too. I think that will hurt Gallup's value a little. Why give up a 2 for Gallup who has one year left on his contract when you can draft a good WR in the 2nd round and pay him a rookie salary?

I like the proactive step of trading a guy before you lose him to free agency. getting something for him is better than getting nothing.

Agreed. It wouldn't be hard to find another #3 receiver and this is probably as good of a trade deal as you'd find. Although I wouldn't mind trading him for a comparative defensive player.

If we trade Gallup to the Fins for a 3rd and 4th, then trade our two 3rds and 4ths to the Texans for a second, we can then tag/trade Dak and a first for Russell Wilson and a Hawks 5th.

I mean it’s dependent on what he would be signed for and if the Cowboys would sign someone with a similar deal. It’s not guaranteed but I see no reason why we wouldn’t get at least a 4th rounder for him.
Why trade him when you can use him for a full season and end up with a high comp pick a year after he leaves?

Gallup would certainly fetch a good prize in a trade but I'd rather just retain his services. No thank you to a trade.

Here's why such a trade makes sense:

The comp picks come at the *end* of a round, so they end up being like round 3.5 picks or round 4.5 picks, etc. And Gallup's value is spot-on as the PFF article suggests. He makes great contested catches, but he drops more than he should.

We can't keep him beyond '21 and we won't be a contender this year. Build for future.

Nice to see fans mailing it in even before FA and the Draft...
