Already gave my alternative. Go after Big Ben if PIT releases him and/or use the draft and move up. (Even Gilbert was really good against PIT's best D in the NFL at the time, much better than Dalton but I'd keep Gilbert for backup and let Dalton walk..) USe Big Ben until the draftee has time to develop and meanwhile spend spend spend on the trenches on both sides of the ball, i.e. REBUILD and with Stats Prescott we aint gonna be ABLE to rebuild nuthin and we aint ever gonna win nuthin.
That’s not a plan, at least not a feasible one.

You propose to wait for Pittsburgh to cut Ben, who is way past his prime and was not good last year, and then hope he signs some cheapo deal to come to Dallas to babysit the role for a year while we start rebuild that he will never be able to see completed? Why on earth would that even remotely interest him? There are many, many, better options for an aging, over the hill QB, that are better than that

think about what you’re suggesting

Barring that, your next suggestion is to sign Gilbert to be our starting QB? If your plan is for us to be absolutely terrible, why not just start DiNucci on his 7th round deal for two years and we can be a 2 win team

Final suggestion is to “spend spend spend” on offensive and defensive line while at the same time somehow miraculously finding the trade capital to “move up”, presumably to roll the dice on the third or fourth beat QB in the draft. How does that work?

These are flights of fancy, not realistic plans.

we have two options

Sign Dak and try to compete and hope he continues to get better and we can build on the defensive side of the ball through the draft and free agency

or

completely tear it down, trade *everything* of value and intentionally, and deliberately, do everything we can to lose games and tank for the next two years l, hoping we can start from scratch

Carter had a winning record as a starter and Batch had a long career both as a starter and later as a backup.

Quincy had a winning record but only started 34 games. Not sure if that’s considered “ok”. And his numbers weren’t ok IMO. His td:int ratio was definitely not ok.

And always felt Batch was a backup. He only had 4 seasons with ten or more starts. Maybe he fits the mold of an “ok” QB. So subjective.

We agree to disagree. IF Dak is signed, we'll see in 5 years who has the last laugh won't we - after what will then be 10 more years of Stats Prescott 8-8. You're the one with flights of fancy especially when you've already seen the man's ceiling and it ain't the Super Bowl mate.

I am too tired to read all thwas the posts but why does this surprise anybody? If a team is picking high in the 1st round, there is a damn good reason why. It is likely that they have been or will be picking top 10 for a few years, and this is due to them being a brutaly football team. What good is it drafting a QB so high on a team that stinks? I can't think of 1 QB right now that would shine on a much inferior team than they are on now. It was clear that in the Super Bore Mahomes was pedestrian on a team with a beaten up OL like he had. He may be the best QB in the NFL, but put even him on the Iggles or Bungles and there is no chance he puts up close to the same numbers...

Brady really was average all year but Tampa's D made sure he didn't have to put the world on his shoulders. Like no other sport is a football team the sum of it's part, and not just a couple of players.

And let’s not forget that Mahomes has two all-pro receivers in Hill and Kelce. He is a great QB but here in Dallas having good WRs to throw to is a knock on our QB.

Just being completely honest. If I could fart on this thread, I would. Really, we need extra picks. Dak for 3 first rounders in a trade with the Jags. Take Trevor this year, and the top 2 defenders the next 2 years. Focus on creating a top 5 defense.

You’re wasting your breath.

We live in a country in which 40% of the population either ignores FACTS or aren’t smart enough to process the information. That’s painfully clear in 2021.

It’s the same ratio on this board.

“DURRRR LET’S GET RID OF OUR YOUNG PRO BOWL QB (SINCE THOSE GUYS GROW ON TREES) FOR A MINUSCULE CHANCE AT A QB UPGRADE IN THE DRAFT DURRRRRRRR!!!!!!”

If the jags wanted a veteran qb why didn't they go after Wentz, Goff or Stafford? If I could fart on this made up trade scenario I would. Just being honest.

Jaguars trade three firsts, including #1 overall this year in exchange for Dak?

It seems like you’ve been huffing your own farts so hard that you’ve become dizzy from the CO2 and are now hallucinating

Wentz hasn't been good since 17. Goff has only been OK at best. Stafford is old and it only makes sense for him to go to a playoff ready team.

I'm not afraid to move on from Dak if we can't get him signed. I am afraid to screw this thing up and see him walk away next year with no compensation.

I agree, while I do think Dak is able to lead this team to a SB with a good supporting cast (same as with any NFL quarterback), it's not like there aren't other options. I remember some fans many years ago being upset with the Dorsett drafting, they felt he was too small for the NFL and was nothing but a speed back, they wanted Bell, that Tampa Bay got. And we all know how that worked out.

I have said I don't see the Cowboys, even with Dak and a good draft, being "in the hunt" for a SB this year (though it could happen), so if they had to draft a quarterback that'd give him 2-3 years to get to SB level, after all Brady and Mahomes both did that...

60% of 1st round QBs flop or have poor careers.
20% have ok careers
20% have stellar careers.

Two first round picks is not nearly enough to jump in the Vegas casino called Draft Your Next QB.

And you can probably cut that number in half every subsequent round.

Yep Mahomes has 2 of the 5 highest paid receivers in the NFL and the highest paid tight end.. But he's "carrying" the Chiefs with a bunch of guys he met at the Y.

I think it’s going to take two more drafts before we get a roster of guys that fit the mold especially on D. The guys we have were drafted purely as a scheme fit and I see no way we’re successful with two LBers who are playing by flag football rules.
