Deion Sanders says Jackson State coaching debut marred by attempted theft

Pro football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders described “mixed emotions” on Sunday after making his coaching debut with Jackson State University, telling reporters that his personal items were stolen from the coaches’ office during the Tigers’ 53-0 victory over Edward Waters College.

“For one, the kids played really well,” Sanders said during his postgame news conference. “But while the game was going on, someone came in and stole every darn thing I have in the coaches’ office. Credit cards, wallet, watches. Thank god I had on my necklaces.”

The school later told ESPN that Sanders’ items were “misplaced and found”, but Sanders emphasized in a series of tweets they were only recovered because one of his assistants walked in on the theft.

I am not following. He claims someone "stole" his stuff but then claims someone walked in on the thief. So technically nothing was stolen. And how is stuff that wasn't then taken from your office because someone walked in and caught them "misplaced"?

This story seems odd.

Ok I'm fully ready to take it in the shorts because I feel like I should know this answer as a sports guy. But, I don't follow college sports much. Why is College football being played in February? Doesn't the season start a week before the pro season and end sometime during the pro seasons playoffs?

Im not sure, but I think its Covid related delay

Odd story either way, he was pretty animated in the press conference

Is Jackson State playing Edward Waters College equivalent to Alabama playing Southwest Alabama no name junior college (or similar type college). :muttley:

Could be considered a spring type practice game. Just a guess.

Yeah very odd during the news conference he talked about everything being stolen, etc. only to have a staff member catch it in the act and prevent the theft? Only thing I could figure he ran back to his office saw everything missing and immediately had to go to the news conference and didn't have time to look into it. Then after he wrapped up the news conference a staff member told him what happened.

Regardless good for Prime Time on his coaching debut. I'm sure he brings passion and energy to all his players. Love seeing Aikman there supporting him.

SWAC canceled their normal football season, initially. They then announced a spring season.

Sounds to me... It WAS stolen. Somebody saw the person that took it and it was recovered. It's CYA by the school to suggest it was "misplaced." It wasn't misplaced.

This isn't about drama. It's the principle of it all.

I think he will recover lol.

While I never wanted my team to sign rival players, I was thrilled to have him.

Always liked him and think he is the greatest defensive player of all time.

I've seen guys that look like Taylor, or White, or Butkis....etc....

I've never seen anyone with Deions game....even as players are generally becoming better athletes.

This guy is Babe Ruth type of deal IMO.

Yeah....and played WR for Dallas when they needed it.....oh and wasn't a terrible MLB player either.

The guy is a sports icon.

It's rather simple......chop the hands off, get a better security system, or keep items in sight....at all times. A thief ain't never been good. I'm not doubting Prime's story.
