Who will be the best player available at 10?

Until that happens, current cap structure makes it very difficult to keep all three receivers.

On the face of it, yes. But stories I've read/heard have indicated there are more than a few players who could, but won't, sign long term deals, regardless of what the money is, this year because of the new television deals which while still uncertain, are expected to take a big jump next year.

Players like who are still improving may want to wait another year to maximize their value, so they'll take a one year deal.

Besides, Gallup isn't a free agent this year, he's not going anywhere....

It's easy. You could, theoretically, extend Gallup right now.

But the cap is going to go up - way up if the league gets anything close to double on the TV deal like they're asking for

The NFL can ask for double of the TV deal. But in reality NFL TV ratings are way down. Networks will point that out in negotiations.

Pitts. He is being touted as a generational player.
Chase won't be available, and even if he were, we simply cannot take another receiver.
Waddle will be available, but the same logic applies to him as with Chase. And he doesn't have an NFL receiver's body. Think DeSean Jackson.
He'll give you a few good years, but when his body starts to rack up the hits, he lose it quickly.
Slater will probably be there, but is he a generational left tackle? Don't think so.
Parson has too many red flags for a No. 10 pick, though we need linebacker help in the worst way.
Farley is coming off injury, and he didn't play this past season. And Surtain is solid sans spectacular.

Honestly, I know we focus exactly too much on offense during the draft. But, you know what, Pitts will likely be the best player on the board when it's our time to pick. And I just don't think Jerry and McCarthy will be able to resist. Face it. There are no Lawrence Taylors, Derrick Thomases, Deion Sanders or Reggie Whites in this draft.

Take the best player. Load up on offense and outgun everyone.

Well, at least that's the plan ... has been the past five years. Shrug.

The ratings don't matter as much as fans like to think they do. All that really influences is the network's margins.

And asking for double doesn't mean they'll get it, but it does mean they're likely to settle at something like a 60% increase. That's a huge influx of cash.

Amari is far and away our best receiver, team gets worse if he is gone and Gallup is kept.

I agree to an extent...but I think Chase / Lamb on rookie deal + whoever is the # 3 is better than Cooper (monster contract) / Gallup / WR3. Gallup will likely be looking for around 8 mil per.

I love Cooper, and think is underrated for how good he is, but part of the reason of being open to WR at 10 is helping our cap.

Now how can we get rid of Zeke? lol

I'd say the best football players in the running at #10 are

-Pitts. Generational. A top 10 WR stuck in a Calvin Johnson sized TE body. Check out that player comparison...

-Parsons. Generational. I don't think there's been a better LB prospect since Kuechly.

-Slater. Not generational, but he's the best G/C prospect to come out since out since Nelson 3 years ago. Hyper-mobile and rarely technically polished. I just can't see a way where he doesn't end up being a stud.

The rest are all your normal 1st round graded players - very likely to be good/studs in the NFL, but I wouldn't call them rare talents.

At some point, all these receivers will be asking to get paid. You cannot just tie up all your money at one positional group. The way this team is constructed, they have so much tied to the offense, that is going to have to change at some point to field a better, more balanced team.

Gallup should be safe this year, next off-season is when a decision has to be made.

Well, no it doesn't.

But it will go up anyway.

So much tied up with the offense, at some point they are going to have to balance this out to field a contender. Best thing would be to hit on some of these picks so they will have quality players at controllable salaries.

This is false. Tampa was skewed heavily to the offensive side of the ball.

Offense cap hit: 94.1
Defense cap hit: 68

Offense is significantly more important than defense in the modern NFL, so it makes no sense to have balanced resources. Spend on offense.

Pitts
Parson
Smith
But we don’t have a major need for either
At 10 if a guy you have ranked 12 is there and he fills a need then I take the guy I ranked at 12
That’s close enough
Pitts may one day be the best player in this draft
But it’s too much of a luxury

Probably Pitts falls, Fields might be there. Farley will be there. Waddle will be there.

Slater will be gone.
Surtain Jr gone.
Parsons gone at #9.
Smith gone.
Chase gone.

Darrishaw might even be gone.

You know, im starting to warm up to the idea of drafting BPA in which case is would be Pitts. Only because no other players worth that pick would be available. So... its either trade down and stockpile or go with Pitts. One of two scenarios.

I would add Farley to that list. No, not a generational talent, but elite #1 CB Traits. I'm fine with any of the 4 at 10.

Right, though if we had a cap increase as normal this year, Cowboys might have been inclined to sign him to a long term deal, as if he had a really good year his cost would likely go up.

Just another reason I'm not worrying much about this year, it's a "one-off" situation, ride it out and start fresh next year, where possible..

Pitts or Parsons.

Only problem I’m having with Parsons and Farley is they haven’t played football in an entire year. That’s a very scary proposition for that high of a draft pick.

Who takes Surtain if Parsons goes 9? Everything I’ve seen in our mocks is predicated on who Denver doesn’t take.

Not saying you’re wrong as we have no clue how it plays out.

I just don’t see Surtain, Slater and Parsons all going before 10

I'm not sure of their plans, but I don't think they are going to be able to keep all three. Lamb is on his rookie deal, where Cooper is making big money and Gallup's new deal could be substantial.
