The jones boys got nothing right...25 years no NFC championship. Jones is just fine missed half the season, can lock down half the field. Expensive guy

4.5 targets a game means he's giving up 47.7 yards per game to the oppositions #1 though right? I didn't watch him, but also didn't hear he was stinking up the joint either.

I don't buy Byron was the worst starting CB in NFL.
I could name and recall several CBS starters in 2020 that was vastly more terrible than Jones
this is where some can twist and mislead others with certain selected stats.

if teams are targeting Xavier Howard more than Jones, it can been viewed as Howard is more suspectible to surrender plays than Jones
but despite being a give some/take some type CB, he clearly has a knack for gathering INTs than most CBs,
10 Ints is a heckuva huge number for a DB.

So long as you keep Jones in a press jam role and scheme, he'll be a suitable man coverage that you can win with.
But he will absolutely Never give you turnovers and INTs - it may mean very little to some fans , ..and teams
Thus that's why the Dolphins immediately may him highest paid CB in NFL … and why the Cowboys decided not to re-sign the former No.1 pick.

I'm not going to dump on Byron Jones I think he is a good cover man, problem is at the pay he got you also expect him to be a playmaker, other top CB not only defend the pass they make plays on the ball and take the ball away. Those extra possession the defense can give the offense means a lot.

Wow. I didn’t think Byron did that poorly in Miami. Guess that’s a win for us?

We still get 3rd compensation right ??

Maybe not. He did get a big boost in salary and he did start all games except 2 because of an injury, but as I understand it also part of the convoluted formula is metrics compared from the old team and the new team. In that they were worse in Miami than in Dallas. Now I don't know if that would bring down the comp pick, but I don't think anyone should think a 3rd is an actual lock either.

I didn't watch miami games this year, so not sure how he played, but it doesn't matter. Qb's didnt throw at him here. I would have rather have Byrons contract over Zekes. Byron Diggs and Cheeto sound really good in hindsight
Byron , Ramsey and Chido sounds even better. Sprinkled in with some henry and No Jaylon. Dang what could have been lol

Jones had a lingering groin injury most of last season. So an injured Jones played near the level of most of our starting CBs this year. Great.

Byron Jones is a great player..

Problem is typical fan looks at the game with an ESPN Highlight / Fantasy Football mentality.

I mean Cowboyszone used to tell me Deangello Hall > Newman because of interceptions..

Cowboyszone used to tell me Merriman > Ware because of sacks stats.

Typical fan just doesn't know what they are looking at.

He wasn't Miami's #1 corner. He was their #2 guy.

I figured with that contract he'd match up on the wr1. That said I dont know enough about Miami's scheme to know if their CBs shadow or flip sides or stay on one side.

In either event I still look at 47 yards per game as a win, even if you are on the wr2 all game.

Jones is a very solid player, but not a great player - he's a B-tier player, imo.
He can operate and handle himself in most cases to where you don't have to worry about having to give him double team help.

He won't struggle for most part, I only recall Texans' Hopkins, Giants' Latimer and the Seattle playoff game where he struggled that '18 year.
but he's not quite that in the level of elite shut down on a Revis, Ramsey, level. and a guy that stands to Never getting you INTs takeaways to
change the game,. and warrants being the highest paid CB in NFL.

Teams do vastly overpaid for certain players for an outside change to get better overall, Byron is definitely one of those players.

Yeah, I agree with you there. Though he seems to have had a boom or bust year. He had some very solid games and then had a few games where he got torched. I've always said I wish we'd kept him, just not at the money he got. He's a good corner, but he's not an elite or top money guy IMO.
