Maybe they did not want the precedence in Dallas.
https://www.si.com/nfl/2015/03/18/dallas-cowboys-sign-greg-hardy-deal

Greg Hardy's deal had language for no franchise tag after his one year deal.

Dallas is undoubtedly taking a risk in signing him. But the team has protected itself by giving him what amounts to a one-year, prove-it deal. While Hardy can earn more than $13 million, his base salary is only $745,000 with the rest coming in a workout bonus, per-game roster bonuses and incentives. The Cowboys cannot franchise tag Hardy, so given the cash incentives and the prospect of free agency in 2016, he should certainly enter this season with plenty of motivation.

I tend to think this deal will be done fairly soon. Cowboys know the cap will be less this coming season and 37 mill on the cap as a franchise tag is something they want to avoid. A few things I have seen and read lead me to believe a deal will be coming soon. By the way today marks the 1st day in which teams can designate a franchise tag on a player

I don't believe that having language included excluding the use of another franchise tag is an unreasonable ask by Prescott and his people. Nor is asking for the inclusion of a no trade clause as well.

If he is "your" guy, commit to him. They have played their hand regarding him since his rookie year. So, as long as the numbers are reasonable enough to still have room to field a talented team around him, and the years are agreeable enabling the team to spread his cap hit...add the language and get it over with. If he isn't your guy...tag and trade him and move on.

As an aside, knowing he wants this language leads me to presume that Prescott won't budge on wanting a shorter deal so he can test the market again sooner rather than later.
Of course not. It's a negotiation and you ask for the world. If Dallas wanted to come in light on dollars they could have tossed these items in to the deal.
We saw Watson get a no trade and huge money months later.
Dallas wasn't obligated to provide any of this and Dak wasn't obligated to sign a below market offer without these things.

I don't know that. And neither does anyone else at this point.

Well obviously. But if you look at the situation objectively, you see both sides are kind of in a bind. One has to budge, and neither has shown any inclination to do that

I really don't envision the Cowboys and Dak reaching a long term deal anytime soon. The situation is even more messy than last year, with Dak looking better than ever, but also having a gruesome ankle injury.

Agree with La Canfora that we all know this is heading to a second franchise tag

that is the worst case scenario and wont help the cowboys at all, they are better off tagging him and trading for some 1st rd picks because he wont be back next year/

Ok, then sign a 6 year deal.

I agree. they can't drag this on much longer. Get it done and sign some free agents

I think that is another part of it, getting him signed prior to the start of FA gives Dallas a clear picture of what they can do in FA. We will see but that is my prediction this deal will be done prior to the start of FA

Everyone else can get a deal done but Dallas. How incompetent are the Jones's

Since they don't need to tag any other player, using the tag can be leverage, if they really need that.

As for me, I've hit the DakDeal wall and don't really care what they do, this is really just bad reruns.

I understand but if he is asking for the moon, why should they hand over the franchise tags. A good negotiation neither side comes away 100% happy.
Because he isnt likely to sign a deal that could be seven years long.

Unless many reports last year were incorrect, the hangup was Dak wanting to cash in again when this deal was up....and being young enough was a big factor.

His side is probably saying they want THREE years if the tags remain (they chose to not sign over taking a four year deal a year ago).....which helps neither side.

Isnt La Canfora one of the guys who talked about the Dez video?
I remember that and he did mention the existence of the video but never said he saw it. In fact, nobody ever said they saw it. It was a plant by the Cowboys like Prescott wanting 40M last year. Some of the media are willing puppets but since the public does not demand truth in reporting, no harm, no foul. It is all gossip, rumor and innuendo.

I am at a point if they can't get a deal done prior to March 9th they should move on from this. Draft your next QB in this years draft and let Dak play on the franchise tag.

I will never forgive the Cowboys for not getting a deal with Dak done in 2018.

What will that accomplish? Will it affect anything other than your personal enjoyment of football? I’m not trying to be facetious or anything, merely suggesting that stress over past mistakes seems like a waste of time.

Just read a tweet that as of today, they can't even afford to tag him.......so you're right, something got to give.
