I hate this reasoning. What has Maholmes done with out good receivers? What has Watson done without a good team. Daks play has been the reason for 2 losses that I remember and even then it wasnt all on him. (Patriots and Eagles 2 season ago). How does a QB elevate a defense that gives up 38 pts a game when you are putting up 35. I also disagree with the defense will have to be bad. Trade back get 2 additional picks. Trade Gallup now, maybe get a 2 and a 4. Draft defense heavy. CB, Safety, OT, LB, CB, DT, WR along with a few mid to upper tier front 7 free agents.

Martin, Tyron, Collins all should be back and the line should be fine. Start freeing up money next year by dealing with Zeke and possibly Amari. This team can be a good team immediately.

Mahomes? A Super Bowl Champ and MVP shouldn't even be brought up when talking about Dak.

Watson just had his best season ever after trading off a top 3 receiver and having no run game. He can still play well without elite tools all around him.

Tyron will eventually miss games like always, so I wouldn't count on that one.

Not talking about me but a guy playing QB in the NFL where the money is being thrown around like candy.

What's so funny about us is that a year ago most were saying no to 30M and he gets what looks like a serious injury and now it's "OK, just to stick to 40 and not a penny more".

I can only imagine the conversations taking place between agents and their QB's as all of this has unfolded. Not only the money but the latest trend, if the QB ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. 8 short years ago we were flabbergasted at 19M for Romo and now we are looking at double that for Prescott, another polarizing QB.

I get all of that but 31 mill was within the top 5 and Dak did not whine about it at all. Why should he when his pay increase from the prior years went up and is still looking to a big contract and even with the franchise tag would still be getting 37 mill

That's why Cousins said play on the tag, he's made out like a bandit at 140M over the last 5 years, he's #1 during that time.

But there is one question hanging out there for Prescott and his agent. We know what went through Prescott's mind when that ankle went 90 degrees the wrong way, what went through France's? Did his heart hit his throat when he saw that because that's the definition of career threatening. Are they willing to take the chance on another tag? Getting injured like that was the last thing on Dak's mind last season. Is it top of mind this season?

Of course as I said players want security of long term but if I had to say who is most frustrated it would be Jones and now even Jones knows Dak has more leverage than Jones does.

As we've seen in the past, the big publicity push to try and put pressure on the FO usually means bad news for Dak. The reality is there are no negotiations going on - only "coversations" about them.

Id be happy being allowed to play video games again lol

We completed that phase of negotiations shortly before the birth of my daughter. Now there is a third-party application for the next round of negotiations. It's not looking good for me.

I'm "hopeful" that a reasonable deal is agreed to.

I believe Jerry will let Dak walk before he signs him to a terrible contract like he did Zeke, Jaylon, and Tank. I think any reasonable fan can see that Dak is just not at a level that can elevate this team to where it needs to go without a lot of help around him. We saw what he looked like pre Cooper, we saw what he looked like last year going 8-8 and only beating 1 team (A bad Eagles team early in the season) that made the playoffs, and we saw how he looked against the two good defenses he played this year (Rams and Giants). Yeah, he was putting up a lot of yards this year (minus the Rams and Giants game), but that is because we had to pass the ball from about the 2nd quarter on to even have a chance because of our historically bad defense. That defense will continue to be bad if we are handcuffed by another bad contract.

I believe we can win with Dak. I do not believe Dak will ever be good enough to win without a lot of help around him. I think Dak is more of an Aikman type. We can win with elite tools around him, but he will never be good enough to carry a team. Signing him to a 40+ million dollar contract eliminates our chances of putting the pieces around him that he needs to succeed. Also, all of this coming off an injury that we have no idea how it will affect him both mentally and physically.

Dak is “an Aikman type”

LOL

How old are you? 10?

Aikman was a MUCH MUCH better QB than Dak

They were hopeful last off-season too. Hopeful is not as good as confident. But we have heard they were confident too so it sounds like they are expecting to franchise Dak again.

If we get
  • Smith, Collins, and Martin all back on the line....no longer top 1 or 2, but still top 6-7 in the league
  • Best 1-2-3 WR group and the league...maybe best group ever for Cowboys
  • solid 1-2 punch in the run game w/ Zeke and Pollard

there really is no excuse to not score 30/game.....with any above-average (ranked 15 or higher) NFL starting QB. And Dak is at least that, regardless of what some say

Now...about that defense....

Aikman also had one of if not the best OL, the best RB, and a top WR. How did Aikman do without Emmitt? You people really don't pay attention. Any QB needs players around him to succeed. Its that simple.

That being said. Its getting a little annoying that people keep bringing up players from when there was no salary cap. It doesnt have any bearing on the current status of our QB situation.

Yeah, no way they would tag him I'm thinking.
It seems that way. Theres 2 options really. Get a deal done, or not. Because if they tag him they need to restructure a bunch of people. So my thought is. If we see restructures coming. We know.
