Oh no, for sure man.

Just saying guys can play and I’ll take technique and instincts over pure speed.
I don't hate Surtain, just think Diggs is a similar type corner. We really need one who can matchup against speed and quickness better then he can.

But do we really?

Pretty sure the D needs an intelligent and athletic S who can limit the effect speed guys have on the D, not a fast CB and a not as fast CB.

We need both. Yes, we will be playing some cover 3, but they will mix up the coverages where at times they will be in man coverage with no safety help.

Surtain won't run a low 4.4 and so people are going to knock him but the reigning All Pro CBs
ran a 4.46 Jalen Ramsey and a
4.58 in Xavien Howard.

CB play is based so much off strength and technique, both of which Surtain has in spades.

Surtain was PFF's highest rated D1 CB this year.
I would be very happy with his selection.
He's not as likely to gamble for big plays as Diggs but plays with great technique.
Results are very Byron Jones like.

I love the Surtain pick. But the more I look into Quinn’s scheme I see more of an emphasis on DT, LB and FS. I think we can get by with a few free agents or Chido back running a zone scheme

Anytime Quinn's defenses have been elite, he's had a shutdown corner on one side.

Honestly, I won’t be surprised if Horn is the only CB still on the board at #10. I think the WRs are the guys who fall a bit while QBs and defenders fill out the top 10.

Surtain is my number 1 corner in this draft. A whole lot of what CB’s do in the NFL is based on technique, smarts, and strength... all things that Surtain is loaded down with.

I think his speed will be fine and you’re really not going to have a 6’1” or taller corner who has the Quicks to stay with a Tyreek Hill or a Cole Beasley, both who can change direction on a dime. Surtain will be playing outside and someone like Brown or Lewis will be playing those guys in the slot most of the time. The Slot corner must have quickness, IMO.

The outside WR’s can be burners (but less quickness) with deep speed but Surtain’s technique can go a long way towards limiting those guys. Besides, you’re going to have a safety over the top almost always if you have a dangerous speed WR running a 9 down the field.

Much of dealing with a guy like Tyreek Hill comes from the coach and their game planning.

Surtain has been playing corner his whole life, basically. The guy is rock solid.

I know it's unpopular, but don't care, I want no part of Surtain, especially at 10. Our defense already lacks team speed, adding another makes little sense. Surtain will be able to cover the big X receivers, but I am scared to death putting him against any speed/quickness. Diggs is a very similar player, we need more speed at the position.

This times 100.

If we’re not worried about + speed / traits bc were gonna be zone heavy I’ll take a CB in rounds 2/3.

I love Surtain but taking him at 10 is too high for me.

I feel like an elite front 7 can make guys like Diggs go from damn good to elite

I always go back to the early 2000 Steelers (pre Polamalu) and see how they had a solid front 7 and made guys like Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington look good lol

Neither Surtain or farley are ballhawks. If you arent a ballhawk you better be a Jalen ramsey. They arent that either. Top 10? Nah

A nice opportunity for the Cowboys to make a potential major upgrade at a much, much needed position. If Surtain and/or Farley at there at #10 - it’s a no brain that we take one of those guys.

Very astute and valid points. For this reason, I'll take Farley any day over Surtain.

While guys are touting Farley for his speed and explosiveness, he is much more of a boom or bust prospect. Very new to the position, not a willing tackler, and has an injury history.

Surtain doesn’t have the quickness Farley possesses but he is one of the most pro-ready players in the draft. He is a technician that doesn’t mind coming up to strike you.

Someone else brought up a great point that playing with the talent Surtain did may have made his job easier so I’m interested in seeing him in more one on one drills. (Which we probably won’t get)

I have a feeling he wont even be their when we are picking at 10 so we won't have to worry about if passing up on Surtain was a mistake or not.
