What happened to Sewell?

He was a supposed lock to go #2/3 overall, and a can't miss stud LT.

Suddenly, as the season ended and media mocks started to surface....he is now projected more often in the 8-12 range, even later in some cases.

He is behind Slater in many mocks.

Thoughts on what happened between December and now as far as his stock?

He is elite and damn good. He just doesn’t have the nasty side that guys like Joe Thomas had. He’s a perennial all pro and stud LT for any team. But it’s a QB market this year is the reason he will lose slide a few. Plus the teams picking early all need QB help

I'm concerned that some may be concerned that he is a guard.

We can't afford to pass up a 10 year top LT at 10, but we also can't afford to end up with a guard.

Agreed. That is my uneducated fear on Slater.

OT is deep this year. Would much rather wait and get a guy around round 3.
Exactly.

Maybe the idea that there's capable tackles in the mid rounds is the cause.

I'm personally wondering if we are rooting for this guy to be there at 10....or to go sooner and push down a bigger need (which would really be corner in this case absent a deal down).

Let him fall. I won't complain locking up a 10 year starter at LT at 10. That's one spot below our last 10 year starter

Fully agree, but IS he that, or have too many scouts determined and leaked that they think he is a guard, or not as good as advertised?

I don't know at all. Reason I asked.

My opinion is that he is a 10 year LT. Could be some overthinking by scouts. Could be me not having all the information. But from what I've seen of him, dude is a legit 'chise LT

Nothing...it's the same crap as Parsons. They've been talked about for so long that people are trying to get cute and knock them down the list to be different.

Sewell is a monster and will likely be a 10 year starter winning multiple pro bowls.

That draft was legendary. Take another look.

This one? Meh.
Especially on defensive talent. One of the greatest defensive drafts ever.

What's funny is at the time it was considered a weak OT class. Smith was the best, but he was 19, weighed 285 pounds and never played LT in college. Other than him, Costanzo and Soldier went on to have very good careers. Even though Soldier fell off, he was an All Pro caliber LT for NE for a while

I watched very little of him but 1 negative I noticed was he plays extremely high. He stands straight up a lot and has no knee bend..

I haven’t watched much though and I could be way off.

That’s something that can be coached too.

Not sure where you're seeing Sewell as 8-12 as the norm.

QBs often get overdrafted and there are a couple of fo elite WRs, but depending on what a team is looking for, Sewell might be the first non-QB taken.

Current rankings for Sewell:
  • CBS Sports has him #2
  • The Draft Network has him #2
  • ESPN's McShay has him #3
  • Draft Lords has him #2
  • PFF has him #4
  • Walter has him #5
  • GBN has him #5
  • Sporting News has him #5
  • Jeremiah has him #9

If he is at 10 take him we have no clue about Collins and his hip which is more of a worry than Tyron and everything he has. If collins cant go you have a guy who can slide to RT until its time to address LT.

Spin and maybe Rashawn Slater has an agent who is getting the media to promote him. Could be some NFL franchises trying to get Sewell to drop so they can pick him
