Agree.

Eventually my radical opinion will become the mainstream opinion and everyone will have suddenly known all along that not overpaying for decent QB play was the right choice.

The Cowboys can’t expect to duplicate that once-in-a-generation Day 3 draft value. But they might be able to plug one of the refined rookie quarterback prospects such as Zach Wilson or Mac Jones into their offense and experience similar short-term success. That shift would dramatically lower the team’s floor for the 2020s, but it would also raise its ceiling. Already up against the salary cap, an expensive Prescott extension would accelerate the hemorrhaging of blue-chip free agents that started with Byron Jones last year. By resetting with a rookie quarterback, the Cowboys could retain their other stars and build like the Rams and Eagles from recent seasons, teams that leveraged the cost savings of Jared Goff’s and Carson Wentz’s inexpensive rookie deals into exceptional roster depth and eventual Super Bowl berths.

Awesome- let’s let Dak walk so we can sign all of our star players to big contracts- who almost always underperform anyway. Btw- we don’t really have any players in the vein of Byron Jones anyway who are actually deserving of big contracts.

realistically who are we going to lose from this team by signing Dak? Gallup?

Byron Jones? the same Byron Jones rated as one of the worst starters last season?

Good luck getting the same production from a rookie QB as Dak.

It’s unfortunate that Jerry failed to sign Dak immediately after the 2018 season when his price would have been much lower and when Dak had a more reasonable agent.

I’ll be honest, I see both sides of the debate here. Which is why I am completely indifferent as to what happens, if that makes sense.

I see both sides as well. What sucks though is not being able to trade him and get draft capital. The thought of him walking out the doors and not getting some premium picks makes me sick. I also believe once he leaves the rebuild begins and we will have wasted a talented roster. (Offense)

You don't need the same production.

You just need to win at the same rate which Dalton proved can be done. We can do a lot better than Dalton.

I agree with their end conclusion to move on from Dak, but not to resign internal guys. They should get draft capital AND cap space to build a playoff team on both sides of the ball.

The prudent move on Gallup is to trade him before he is a FA next year. So, Jerry will likely keep him and let him walk for nothing next year.

I think the only way someone trades for him is a Carson Wentz type of deal because the problem with Dak is you have to pay him as well.

I see both sides too. I think we can win with Dak, but I also understand signing him would cut into the money pool for other players, and that the Cowboys would be more dependent on the draft to fill defensive holes if it didn't have as much money to spend on free agents.

But what keeps me from being indifferent is the question of who will play QB, and if we are risking a significant drop off in the offense if we let Dak go. Contrary to what some would like to believe, it's not that easy to find a QB at Dak's level or better, and if the team were to end up with the next Jake Locker or EJ Manuel it could remove any chance the team may otherwise have the next few years.

I am with you on that now.

I can't help but be ticked at the Jones Boys, though. They drug their feet on this two or three years ago. They could have signed Dak then.

At this point, I think if we sign him long term, great! If not, then I guess we'll be getting ready for another QB era.

The one thing I really hate though, is QB purgatory. But, we dealt with it in the early 2000s....we can deal with it now.

They will make the problem worse by signing him and Cowboys fans will applaud the move while Jerry drags us into mediocrity.

People want change but they don't really want change. They want to be comfortable and right now the thought of taking a risk is too scary for them and they'd rather be stuck in the middle.

Yeah because I don't really care how he was rated by some company or whatever.

Byron Jones is a stud player and one of the best in the league at what he does.
Yeah. He was ranked one of the worst starters but he's the best. You're ridiculous man honestly. no concept of taking accountability when you are wrong or off base. Grow up
