Jimmy G was made the highest paid Qb over a handful of starts. Stafford has also received huge top 3 deals for losing in Detroit.

Once one deal is done, some copy and go above said deal.

His request isn't that unreasonable. He's not asking for 100% guaranteed contract or asking to be involved in player acquisitions.

The op mentioned precedent. But Dallas has done a deal like that before with Hardy and another team has done it with a QB.

Dallas wants term length. Dak doesn't. There's a compromise

If he is "your" guy, commit to him. They have played their hand regarding him since his rookie year. So, as long as the numbers are reasonable enough to still have room to field a talented team around him, and the years are agreeable enabling the team to spread his cap hit...add the language and get it over with. If he isn't your guy...tag and trade him and move on.

As an aside, knowing he wants this language leads me to presume that Prescott won't budge on wanting a shorter deal so he can test the market again sooner rather than later.

Well... then let Prescott test the market now.
Cowboys should place the non-exelusive tag on him so his agent can negotiate with other teams that presumably would take Dak as their starting QB with what he wants for his contract (3 year deal, guaranteed $$$$, no trade clause (?)). Dallas gets suitable compensation in return.
