I’m not paying much attention to this draft class so far but those in the know please tell me.

Is there better CB depth or OT depth in this draft?

Meaning..

Would we be better off selecting an Offensive Tackle in the 1st and corner in the 2nd or the other way around?

What some names of projected 2nd round guys I need to look at...?

CB depth is deep. Guys like Gowan can be found later and be an eventual starter

I think the Cowboys believe they are set on the offensive line. Fans don’t want to believe this but the Cowboys love Steele and Knight especially now that they can have the guys in their offseason weight program. Both are undrafted free agents so they are cheap and under team control. The secondary we have no one we can count on but Diggs, Brown and Wilson. If we had to field a team today our line would be top 10 in the league. Our secondary would be missing a safety.

As you know, picking solely based on position is a truly terrible idea.
But in this case, we're kind of lucky this year because both the CB and OT positions are deep thru rounds 1-3.
I'm assuming we'll be looking at safety too fairly early, but that group isn't as strong in the top of the draft.

I think the writing is on the wall for Tyron and only they know about La'el..

Also, if you're investing like this in Dak you can't take a risk for these guys to be out and potentially have the offense fall apart.

The WR's are now the strength of this offense and without time to throw we are in trouble.

I know it was Dalton in the game against AZ and the first game against Washington but what a difference blocking made vs no blocking to speak of.

You also have Chase Young to deal with and he'll be playing long after Tyron Smith is gone.

So i'm all for taking a defender or whatever but no way do I pass on a OT if there is a legit one available.

I hear you but I am thinking like the Joneses. They really believe Tyron and Collins are coming back. I bet they believe this is the deepest offensive line we had since the Great Wall of Dallas.

Lets sign and trade Dak to Carolina for 2 first round picks. Draft a quarterback at 8 and start over. I don’t even need CMC.

There is much better CB depth. Its roughly after the 3rd round best OTs are long gone and slim pickings afterwards.

Class is good for both positions, but Tackles tend to get over drafted due to demand, where corners are viewed differently from team to team. This is why a player like Diggs fell to us last yr in the 2nd rd.

Dallas has made mistakes in the past. I remember signing a 33 year old Mark Tuinei and not re signing Ron Stone let him leave in free agency. Guys like Jeremy Parnell

I disagree, we saw what happens when our starters go down, they cannot compete, This is like Sean Lee all over again.

Safety is extremely thin, especially a single high safety we need.

You look at the history, very rarely are quality left tackles taken outside of the top 10. A few exceptions, but not too many.

Philbin survived with two UDFA’s for the majority of the year. I’m not touching an OT early with our needs.

Honestly the line looked better with Erving and Martin at tackle. He worked magic with what he had

Is there a big difference in the 1st round guys and 2nd round guys?

My worry is that the rules make a lot of these corners kinda look the same and i'd hate to draft a guy when there is similar value a round later.
Yes. The top 3 CB's in this draft are all prospects you can expect to be #1 CB's. The day 2 players are all #2 or #3 CB's. Last years draft was deeper at CB, but not as good at the top IMO. Johnson and Fulton both have traits that could have them being quality #1's. Diggs could be a good #1 in certain systems. IMO all three were underdrafted. This years day 2 tier is pretty much all #2 or #3 CB's. Melifonwu is the only day 2 CB I could see being a #1, and he would really have to develop

I kinda doubt there's ever going to be a draft with more depth at OT than CB...just not enough humans beings walking around at 6'3+ and 300 lbs+.

With that said there are some pretty good 2nd/3rd round OT prospects this year- can see these guys going anywhere between picks 20-75

Teven Jenkens, OK St (RT only)
Dillon Radunz, N Dakota St
Samuel Cosmi, Texas
Alex Leatherwood, Bama
Walker Little, Stanford (big time injury concerns)
Liam Eichenberg, Notre Dame
Jalen Mayfield, Michigan (RT)
James Hudson, Cincy (high upside, little experience)

The Cowboys need to rebuild. If we trade Dak for the two first round picks with a team like Carolina we would be on are way. The Joneses think they can not only get by with the offensive line but I bet they think the defense needs only fine tuning. They probably think the defense is ok after we won three of the final four games beating those backup quarterbacks.

I am saying what I believe the Joneses are thinking. We need a team overhaul in my opinion. I would sign and trade Dak get two first round picks then draft a quarterback and the best offensive tackle we can get with the first two picks in this draft. Praying that we trade with Carolina. Hopefully by 2022 we will be a contender with a quarterback and left tackle under rookie contracts.
