This post is more of just being a Dallas Cowboy fan and being frustrated so cut me some slack. I am just so tired of hearing about Dak Contract from all these talking heads and predicting what the price should be and that Dak has all the power etc. The last thing I saw today was $40 million for a 3 year deal. Media are like enjoying that he going to be or should be a $40 million player. A part of me says...Sign him and move forward......but 40 million is a lot of cash with not way to spread signing bonus or anything. I just don't get it. I wish we would have lost games and been in a position to draft Wilson.....I really do..... Honestly I think for the first time that JJ might just trade him or something ...I just don't feel confident. I have been a fan since 77......I remember Dorsett holding out....I remember Smith holding out....all of those where..it's going to happen. I just don't see that with Dak. I like him I support him, but we haven't got close to a Championship Game....What happens if in 3 years...we still are a middle team because of the salary hit...do they sign him again.....I would appreciate comments to see what are you thoughts....What is the consensus.....Thanks.
I appreciate your post and see you have thought about it a minute or two. I see Dak getting tagged yet again and thus walking to a new team in 2022 where he gets his phat payday finally. Furthermore, Dak will ball out in 2021 and leave the team with something like the 30th pick in 2022.

What's gotten lost in the debate is whether or not Dak is the right choice going forward. Many on CZ seem to thing that a QB in his late 20s, who's had a mediocre career to date, and is coming off a serious injury will suddenly turn into a HOF QB

Others like me see Dak developing arthritis in that ankle in a couple of years and thus having his career cut short.

This team even with the best players around him( proven) is going nowhere with DAK......
If they Tag him or give him a massive deal it will be our gravestone for the upcoming years.
Oh, shut it already with your bunk of lies, PD.

Dak and the Cowboys would have advanced at least to the NFC Championship Game in 2016 if the officials had not helped out Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. In 2018, Dak and the Cowboys beat Russell Wilson and the Seahawks during the playoffs at home in Arlington. Dak and the Offense showed up the following game at the Rams. It was our Defense who lost us that playoff game.

If this is true that Dak and his crooked agent are asking for $41.5 / year on only a 3 year deal with $100 mil fully guaranteed, I would franchise tag him and let him test the market to see what other teams are willing to offer him. If some team is dumb enough to offer Dak $40+ million per year, don't match it. Let Dak sign with that other team while the Cowboys get two 1st round picks as compensation. If no one offers Dak more than $35 mil / year, match it and force Dak to either accept that or get benched for at least a year with no pay until he decides to sign the contract. At least Dak will know by then that he's not going to get paid $40+ mil / season by anyone.

No team will give him 37? Hmm should I believe you or the NFL agent?

NFL agents are pretty much below Car salesmen in the ethics order of life.....You go right ahead and believe Todd and his buddies.
See how far Dak has gotten with them as his career is in danger of pretty much ending in the NFL gutter!

Biggest Dak fan here...

$40 million is waaaay too much. It will hurt this team's ability to afford to build a SB capable team.

$32 - $35 is plenty enough for Dak and best for the team.
He'll be making close to that figure anyway. With all that in mind, the reality is clear. Dak will either be locked in to a long-term contract extension by March 9, or he will be franchise tagged again.

Likely the exclusive tag, to the tune of $37.7 million. Lol. The man is smart.

THIS is why they will never use the non-exclusive tag on him........pretty sure Jerry and Stephen are/will saying they don't need someone else or another team to tell them how Dak is worth.

Tag is the best option for sure

#2 overall alone won't do it for me but add 2021 2nd, 2022 1st and their young DT Williams or QB Donaldson, we have a deal.

Do you seriously think the Jets would offer the #2 pick in the draft for a mediocre QB who can’t pass a physical and is demanding $40M/year? Seriously?

Jets aren’t that dumb. Dak has no trade value until he can pass a physical and agrees to a reasonable contract, something in the low $20M range. Jerry is bidding against unicorns.

I think you're likely right about that -- our FO doesn't want to lose Dak but would likely be willing to franchise tag him again. They should realize by now that they'll have to pay more than they want to. I can't see them letting him walk, with their QB talent judgment being so lame. They should know by now that they've painted themselves into a corner.

Sure, you can tag him but you have approx 2 months ( before the draft ) to solve the puzzle/problem. After that, it's over, done, you're out of the game coz you've lost the trade option. Now you have only two left before July 15 deadline....get the long deal completed or let him play 2021 on the 2nd tag ($37M). If that happens, his days as a Cowboy are probably over the season.

Would any real Cowboys fan actually be happy if Dak signed for 40+ million? I don't see how a fan of this team could possible be happy signing any player to that type of contract.

I love Dak, but there is no way he is worth that much money. He can play like a top 10 QB if everything is going right, all his pieces are working, and we happen to be playing a bottom of the league defense that week. I believe of all the QBs that people would consider "top 10" Dak needs the most help to stay in that range. All you have to do is look at how he has preformed lately against the bad defenses he has faced and compare that against the good defenses he has faced. The numbers are drastically different. These good defenses are the types of defense we would face in the playoffs.

It still all boils down to the fact that paying Dak 40+ million does not do anything to help a historically bad defense. If Dak refuses to budge I'd rather take my chances on another QB that allows to us fill the enormous amount of hole on this team and go from there.

Also, I'll say this again. Dalton went 5-5 last year with less of a team then Dak had when he went 1-3. Dalton was winning games at a higher pace then Dak was last year while playing without Smith and Martin on the O-Line. Dalton is not better than Dak, but Dak is not somehow the only QB that can win games.

Dak isn’t holding out. Has never held out. Dak has done everything in his power to try and win games. He works on his craft. He hates losing. He’s the most respected leader in the locker room. He’s led the offense to be #1 in the NFL the last 2 years when he plays.

I suggest you don’t watch the talking heads. They get paid to create controversy. You’ve been sucked in by them because you watch them. Grow a pair and don’t. Coming here and whining about it is not a good look.

Dak will not be worth the money unless that team he signs with has elite weapons all over the field.

Dak without Zeke, Pollard, Cooper, Lamb, and Gallup would not be a pretty sight in my opinion. Has people forgot what we looked like the last time we thought he can carry the team on his back if needed? It was pre-Cooper, and it was not pretty. He wasn't even throwing for 200 yards a game.
