It only ran for three seasons but I really enjoyed it. It was later know as Star Trek The Original Series but at the time it was just Star Trek.

And it started out in black and white television?
I only knew and seen it in color.

I did not know" lost in space" was once black and white format
To which I only watch that show because of robot cowardly doctor Smith, the kid Will Robinson, and the space creatures and characters
" danger, danger will robinson !"

Westerns were my favorite b&w's which is why Red River is one of my top 3 all time westerns. I can taste the dust when watching that movie.

Oh man. I think I watched all of those shows from the 60's. But, Vic Morrow in Combat was the one that I never missed.

Gene Roddenberry produced two pilots. NBC disliked The Cage, which was presented to the network as a black-and-white print but was also filmed in color. The second pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before, appealed to the network but was officially released as the third episode of the series' first season. It was filmed in both black-and-white and color print also.

The colorized version of WNMHGB was released in both early re-runs and syndication of the series. Colorized portions of of the TC was incorporated into the first season's two-part The Menagerie episode.

Oldtimers like me remember The Menagerie visual defense in Mr. Spock's court-martial showing Captain Pike's ship and crew, beginning as a black-and-white presentation on the court room monitor, then morphing seamlessly into a colorized presentation. Those scenes were derived from TC episode that did not get past the NBC cut.

The entire black-and-white episode version of TC did get limited replay, especially in the early days of the series syndication, before it was permanently replaced by its colorized version. I could not locate a black-and-white video of WNMHGB anywhere but did find this still photo taken from the episode:

The shot is taken from a scene, where Kirk was apologizing to Gary before attempting to bash Gary in the head with a rock, in order to save everyone from Gary's superhuman power rampage.

Star Trek was almost entirely a colorized series but technically it began as a black-and-white series. :p This has been a
