I realize that this will not set well with some posters, and I'm OK with that. I realize that the Cowboys have made some serious mistakes over the years, but a majority of the real boneheaded mistakes were several years ago.

The Cowboys have been attempting to get Dak signed. It takes two make a deal. That hasn't lined up yet, and that's not on the Cowboys, or Dak for that matter. Its business.

The Cowboys still don't want to overpay Dak. Dak wants to leverage all he can from the Cowboys, that's also VERY clear. That is also business.

This thread is not about ANY OF THAT. The reality of the situation is that the Cowboys WANT Dak to be a Cowboy, but not at ANY price. Dak probably wants to be a Cowboy, but not at any price.

So, I think the Cowboys will try really hard to get Dak signed over the next week. If that doesn't happen, the Cowboys, as a prudent organization, should AND WILL start preparing for a team without Dak, and be looking at QB options for the upcoming year.

People are saying that the Cowboys have no options. That is incorrect. Once the Cowboys use a draft pick on a QB, their willingness to be all in on Dak will decline sharply, if a premium pick is used. The next week is critical in the Dak drama.

In my opinion, the die will largely be cast on Dak on draft day. If Dak desires to be a Cowboy (and no one knows if that is the case or not) he better get signed before draft day.

If I were the Cowboys I would make sure that my "final best offer" was on the table in front of Dak prior to that time, and I would make sure Dak knows that it is the final best offer and that the train is pulling out of the station on draft day.

I have confidence in the organization that they will do that. This would not preclude Dak playing on the tag for Dallas for another year, but it likely means that 2021 is his final year as a Cowboy.

They decided to overpay for a gimp linebacker and bum RB before paying Dak and it came back to bit them. When the diva cry baby decided to sit out in Cabo that should have been the final straw and Jerry should have extended Dak (which he should have done before extending a RB anyways). But nope, Jerry caved and folded like a soft taco to the cry baby divas demands and this is part of the result. He’s a horrible GM and deserves every bit of the mess he created.

Evidently, the Cowboys are doing all they can for Dak and Mr. France to capitulate to their wishes and vice-versa.
Good luck to both. Both sides sorely need to wise up and reach considerate terms. If not, it'd likely be a mistake.

Give the organization credit for what? The amazing drafts they have had the past few years? Oh wait they have been largely terrible and its why there is a massive void of young talent on the Cowboys. For signing the right players? Clearly they have not given who got extensions. For hiring the best coaches? I am not going to dignify this with an answer.

2020 might be the first passable draft they have had since 2016. That is not good drafting. That is why the team is not trending up. If you want to win in the NFL you need to hit on your early picks and be able to find some JAGS with your later picks and they have done neither.

Meh. The Cowboys have had some great seasons since 1996 but something always happened in the playoffs. Whether it was Romo's fumbled field goal snap or late endzone pick in 2006 and 2007, or Dez's non-catch in 2014, or Aaron Rodgers' miracle completion late in the 2016 playoff loss, the Cowboys have always come close to the NFC Title Game. But close doesn't count.

This franchise drafted Jaylon Smith at the top of the 2nd round knowing he might never play. Then extended this bum after one fluke season. They drafted Taco over TJ Watt. They have not made one single conference championship game in 26 years. Meanwhile, trash franchises up to that point like Tampa has now made 3 and won 2 rings. Even the Cardinals have made 2 and went to a Super Bowl.

This franchise gets no credit under Jerry as GM because they don't deserve any at all.

You titled this thread “Cowboys organization does not get enough credit” .. Was this title supposed to go with a different piece you are working on? Please explain how anything in the entire thread tells us what they don’t get enough credit for? I’ve read it three times and aim still looking. WTH do they not get credit for? They sure in hell don’t deserve credit for anything other being LOSERS for 26 years. Ok i’ll give them credit for things like destroying legacies for guys like Tony, JW, Dez, and some of the best OL the game has ever seen: I’m sure i could find some “everyone’s a winner” type things. But my God, we are all fans of one of the worst professional sports franchises over the past 1/4th century. There is nothing they don’t get enough credit for. They should get credit for taking the name of the historically perineal great powerhouses in the NFL , and turning that same name into stinky trash. We used to be compared to names like Lakers, Yankees, and Ali, now we are compared to teams like Browns, Bengals, Mariners, and Clippers. That’s what they should get credit for

I think the Cowboys will screw this up and lose Dak despite claiming they want him. That's just the kind of incompetence the team is dealing with in the FO.

The Cowboys organization does get a lot of credit, but not in a positive way. They keep doing the same thing over and over every year and expect it to be different. Its like a restaurant bringing in a master chef and he/she can only cook the same recipes and the same menu they have had in all their past failure. And wonder why people still don't like the food or even come. It's plain idiotic.

Agreed, except for the last sentence.
