What would you give up for Wilson?

Ok to be honest, we all smell our own farts. But the noise out of Dak's camp is he wants a contract in the 40 million range which is more expensive than Wilson so it's the same argument of spending big money on a QB or having cap room for the defense. It's the argument we've had on this board all year.

My personal opinion if we spend 40 million a year on a QB and the choice is Dak or Russel, I'm going with Russell every time. He's got a longer body of work of elite QB play, Dak has had 2 great years and 2 below average years. I like Dak but not for 40 million a year.

If I got my wish. My wish would be to trade Dak for a couple 1st rounders. Trade a mid round pick for someone like Darnold or Trubisky. Rebuild the roster this year, get out of salary cap hell with Zeke and Jaylon type contracts. Then see what happens in 2022 as far as attracting a more talented QB on the end of his career (like the bucs with Brady) or maybe one of the draft picks we pick up from the Dak trade goes to a QB and that QB takes over for Darnold or Trubisky or Newton or whoever we get on the cheap for a one year rental.

I personally don't think a team can win it all with a 40-45 million QB and a weaker roster. I feel defense wins championships and we have to blow up our defense and completely rebuild it. I feel an above average QB can win a super bowl with an elite defense and offensive line.

But if we have to pay a QB 40 million, which I don't want to do, then I'd go with the elite Wilson. At least you'll be paying for elite play. Paying elite money for non elite play is a ticket to mediocrity.
You are forgetting that Wilson would also cost you your next few drafts. So you would end up with a player similar to Dak in performance and salary but without any draft picks to fix the defense.

Wilson, by most measures, is a better QB. That being said, even if he doesn't improve the offense even one bit, the massive cap savings you'd get with him as QB compared to Dak make it a win

In 2022 Wilson would have a cap hit of $24 million where Dak's cap hit could be in the high 30 millions.
What??

Almost correct, but not actually correct. You are correct that those are his cap hits IF he stayed in Seattle. However, if he were to be traded his cap hits for the team that traded for him would be 19 million, 24 million, and 27 million. The reason you made this mistake, and its one that is made quite often, is that you are not factoring in the prorated signing bonus that would be on the Seahawks to eat of which 39 million still remains or 13 million per season. Wilson is an incredibly cheap option at QB which is why for the Cowboys to pry him away it would have to be something like Dak and 2 1s.
So we are hoping Seattle eats the Wilson dead money AND turns around and pays Dak his 40M per year?
And we lose our next few draft in the process. Why would Seattle do this again?

Which is why you would have to pay multiple 1s and Dak for them to even entertain it (they have a LOT of holes to fill). I honestly do not think a deal makes sense for either side. Dallas does not have anywhere near the talent to be able to be going all in on a QB. Wilson is better but 5 years older so that margin is smaller. I just do not think its a situation where Dallas would be willing to give up the capital in order to make it worth it for Seattle.

Yeah, but you would have to give Seattle significant draft capitol. But lets back up. Why would Seattle not want to take advantage themselves of the final 2 cheaper years of his deal? Either they don't think he's good or they want to cash in the chip before having to negotiate his next mega deal. Why would we trade places with them?

Because he’s not cheap for Seattle. A team trading for him has lower cap hits than Seattle.

Seattle gave him a massive signing bonus that they have to account for on their cap. A team trading for him is not responsible for accounting for the signing bonus.

Its all moot anyway as Seattle isn’t taking the cap hit unless they get a crap ton in return.

Wilson is one of the few QBs I would give up at least 2 firsts for. Rodgers, Murray, Mahomes and maybe Brady would be the others. Brady being as old as he is would probably be a one or two year deal but you would have a shot at getting a title with him even in that short of time so it would be worth it.

What's the best offer you'd send to the Seahawks.

I like Dak a lot, but Wilson is a natural born winner. I'd give up the house for him. He can carry this team with a solid oline, Zeke, Cooper, Gallup and Lamb.

I wouldn't give up rift for Wilson. He's slightly better then Dak. 4 years older. Makes almost the same money. Where's the upside for what you'll need to give away for him?????

I’d do that. Russ would murder defenses with our offense. Yeah that’s a lot of draft capital but maybe a better and more flexible contract than what Dak wants and I don’t think anyone thinks Dak is on Russ’s level. We’d still have enough draft picks to get some defense and we might even free up more cap space than eating a Dak deal.

Go back and read the 3rd paragraph of my post. Then read the 5th paragraph.

The only Wilson I want is in this years draft - Zac Wilson. The best thing is that we don't have to sell the entire farm and more just to get him.

I wanted him too, but at #10 and a lot of other qb needy teams ahead of us or teams really needing a QB more than we do will outbid us for sure
