Laugh if you like. Most of us have been laughing for over 25 years. Brady was worth 30mil. Dak isn't. Brady has good coaches and a great defense. Dak doesn't.
We need to start over by getting rid of all the over bloated contracts, get a new QB who we can build with and in maybe 3 or 4 years we might be something of a team who
can win. NOT NOW!

Don't think it was necessarily just insurance money for the tag. I think Dallas wanted to carry over as much as possible knowing that it would need a good chunk for a deal with Dak in order to have some cap space for other deals without having to use restructures. There are multiple players whose deals could be restructured, though, if the team needed more space.

Having to pay Dak the tag amount would force the team to have to use restructures to add anyone else. That puts some urgency on striking a long-term deal. Sure, the team could tag him and use restructures as needed, but the goal is generally not to restructure deals since eventually you have to take a cap hit for those players.

I will be surprised if we do too much massaging because of the Joneses' free-agent strategy of only paying cheap fill-ins. We won't need too much money for the broken-down or knock-off bargains we bring in.

I don't see the defense getting to top15 or better, which is normally needed for titles.

But I've been wrong before, I would hardly be upset if I am this time....

We need five quality players and this defense will be top 15. Two starting DTs, a starting free safety, a starting corner and a third linebacker. We can get those players in one offseason, but the question is whether the Joneses will pay for quality.

The Cowboys are one of the teams in better shape. That doesn't mean the cap space will support all of their coming plans. They have to count beans like anyone else. Prioritize your spending and make Dak your priority. Everything else falls in place after Dak.

I could live with that scenario easily, but I just seriously dont see this signing not happening.
If Jerry has proven to me one thing, its that he is at least consistent in how this franchise handles favorably perceived franchise contracts.

If you think back to the Dec 2018 game vs NO....that defense was close to dominant.

What was going on? Lawrence was doing his thing, which allowed Gregory to get pressure on the other side....and LVE and Jaylon were flying around making plays.

The DBs (Jones aside) were all the guys most of us (me included) want to move on from.

Point is....play as a unit and get pressure up front.

Not impossible in one offseason by any means.

The great coaches scheme with the talent they have, many are disappointed and with good reason, but proper scheme could shed some more light on who can be effective in Quinns defense.
One thing for sure, if the production doesnt pick up, then Quinn is one and done as well.

Right on. We've seen this movie for years. The team is not close to ready to compete for a SB let alone a conference championship. Paying Dak 300 mil is just throwing
good money after bad. This team needs to be scraped and just start over.

By the time they could possibly fix the bad half the good half would be ready for retirement. Your way leads to years more frustration. By the way, I'm not so sure that the good half is all that good, just expensive.

Based on Jerry’s history as gm, he can’t build a good defense. At least with dak we have a great offense. And if Jerry ever does build a D, then we’re an instant contender.

We rank down there where Cleveland was 3 or 4 years ago. We need to start over and rebuild through the draft for two or three years. It's going to take us drafting in the top 3 places for a few years to retool this mess. Any other scenario is just stacking us in the middle of the pack for years to come.

Nah, with dak we can compete with any team and be in the game. A few quality drafts and were competing for a title. Your way we 100% suck for the next 10 years.
