The specter of Jerry and Stephen negotiating with Dak is a scary thing.

The inclinations of both sides really doesn't appeal to practicality at all.

Both are hell bound to get their way, without any clue how to get there.

Cleveland is a good team. They won a playoff game last season.

Against Cleveland Dak threw for over 500 yards, completed over 70% of his passes, had 4 TD’s, 1 Int, averaged 8.7 yards per attempt, and had a passer rating of 112.9.

Those are not Dalton type numbers.
he did all that after falling so far behind, cleveland thought they had the game won.
And they 1 int was a redzone int at end of game.

Also look at the rams game 1 , only 17 points, the eagles game end of 19, only 9 points, the NE game only 9 points.
What happened in those games?
Our defense is an issue, but in some games where the defense held the opp to less than 20 points, dak still lost the games, like NO, NE, phil .
I dont blame all of it on dak, kellen is part of the problem, game mgmt too, but dak at times has played poorly, and other times he has looked great lol.
He just isnt very consistent.
He also has been a slow starter in games over the years. that is a problem.
He is a decent qb, but not worth the money he wants , or all the trouble and distractions.

I want to point this out, the Rams Colts and Detroit, kudos to them, they got their qb issues resolved early on, and can now focus on other issues and the draft.
Dallas and some other teams have not done this so they cant properly focus on other things like the draft etc.
To me this is a big mistake.

How can dallas prepare for the draft with this qb contract issue and it being a distraction, it also makes it hard to make a plan for the next 2-3 years.
Whatever dallas aka the jones boys are going to do they need to do it and move forward.
They should be working on who they want to get in the draft right now, not dealing with dak and all those issues.

Me thinks Dak overthinks this too much and is confused. Ever hear the term in business "baffle em with Bull ****.?" Todd France may be doing this with Dak. I think the kid is being used and confused and he may be unsure what he wants.

This is exactly what is happening, unfortunately.

Ok so if Dallas tags Dak with a no exclusive tag we have the right to match or if its to much then we get 2 #1's
I have some questions
Lets say a team offers Dak a 5 year 40 mil per yr contract basically what we are offering him now so Dallas say ok thats basically what we have been offering so ok were going to match. Can Dak refuse that contract?

Lets say that NO team offers Dak anything what happens then is Dak just tagged for the yr?

I notice a lot of people doing a lot of talking knowing little to nothing in regards to the cap, space, and everything related to that. Dak is not going to be playing on the tag in 2021. Not unless Jerry is delusional. Dak is either signing long term or he's out of here.
this..by hook or crook.^

It's too late. If they pay him we're screwed for the next 3 years. Dallas doesn't have the cap space and they'll have to rebuild. What's the point? The extension should have happened after 2018. It's pointless now. Good quarterback, bad team. We seen that with Romo for how many years? We're in worse shape with Dak getting paid right now than with Romo. Dak will literally get zero help due to our cap situation. Does he care? Not his job to care. Just cash in.
the naivety of todays player is astounding. Dak is being heavily manipulated by bad advice. I expect much of it coming from Todd France and some from his inner circle. Human nature takes over I guess and then the greed takes over. Happens to the best of us. ALL sides better figure this out realistically. EVERYONE stands to lose if this fails to happen. France will have egg all over his face...he still will get his client signed to some team, but I expect it wont be the windfall he wanted.Money lost. The cowboys lose the guy they groomed for 4 years or more for NOTHING. Dak loses a ton in endorsements. THE FANS LOSE TOO. We like Dak and to start a rebuild at QB would be tough. MANY unknowns doing that. Sets the team back. GET THIS DONE GUYS! No 3,4 year bs...just do a 5 year deal and call it a day. Dak needs to stop the nonsense with the 3 year deal crap. AINT HAPPENING. He better just start packing his **** up now if he doesn't budge.

Of course Dak can refuse it. Dallas only has to match what Dak accepts. Dak doesn't have to accept any offer.

Well, you have your opinion. The Pats and 49ers could use a QB and have the rest of the team in place. Plus, you forget just how bad our defense was/is. I guess your dislike of Dak is personal since you'll conveniently overlook facts that don't support your narrative.

Oh, and your opinion is a solid fact huh? lol The Pats might have the worst collection of offensive skill players in the NFL and SF isn't far behind. So, I would love to see Dak on either of those teams for 2 first round picks....... dream on dreamer.

he did all that after falling so far behind, cleveland thought they had the game won.

So why didn’t our backup QBs throw for over 500 yards then?

They were falling far behind as much as Dak, yet their production was a huge drop-off by comparison.

Dak won 40 games in 4 seasons with Garrett as the head coach. That’s an impressive achievement.

I didn't say mine was solid fact. I just don't ignore the obvious. This is a team game and the D lost us a lot of games. Was Dak part of the problem? Yep. I just don't see an available QB that is better than what we have. You would let Dak walk for nothing and that is just stupid.

Why? Like I said, I like Dak a lot, but over the last 2 years, he has not been a difference maker. If we over spend on Dak we won’t have the money to spend on our defense.

That is the depth of your argument? I saw a better discussion on the pros and cons of signing Dak on the side of a railway car.

Dak is 9-11 in his last 20 starts. Pretty sure Andy Dalton can get us that for half the price which would actually leave us money to fix the defense. Jerry has handled Dak stupidly for years. You don't compound the mistake by chasing.

Not the answer.

Non-exclusive... See this one a lot. It does ZERO.
It opens up Dak's agent to talk to other teams but changes zero as he can talk to those teams quietly anyway. --See Matt Stafford and Rams.
The compensation would max out at two R1s but is all open to negotiation same as if he is tagged exclusive.
All it really does to tag exclusive is prevent a team making an offer with a structure you hate for a player you'd prefer to keep.
Example: WFT offers Dak a 3 year deal with a no trade clause and 120M fully GTD. 60M in cash year 1.
WFT and Dak would control timing here which likely means they made Dallas eat the cap charge for a while post draft and well into FA.
WFT meanwhile can make any moves they want knowing this is coming.
And then WFT expects to easily with the NFCE and offer up only two late R1 picks the next two seasons.
So Dallas gets a reward of two late firsts in 2022 and 2023 for essentially a lost season of free agency(your 37.7M doesn't free up for as much 100 days post free agency start) and Dak Prescott.
WFT becomes a top 5 team in all the power rankings with a great trenches situation, defense and a proven QB plus all their draft picks in 2021.

Too much risk. If a team really wants to sign Dak they’ll just put a poison pill in there so the Cowboys will be unable to match.

That being said, no one is giving up two firsts to sign Dak this offseason. He’s just not worth it with the injury questions.

LOL. Jethro posts again.

Dak is 42-27 at QB for the 3rd most wins since he entered the league.
Behind Russ and Brady.

QB wins isn't a QB stat but if ii t actually was it adds to Dak's value.

Dallas has played 11 games without Dak and went 4-7.
The 3 losses suffered with Dak in 2020 were all to teams that won 10+ games.
Dallas averaged over 32 PPG for 1st in the NFL with Dak in 2020.
They averaged just over 22PPG without Dak good for 22nd.
