Where is Sam Bradford? Some guys just need to retire. Alex Smith was able to play again last year after that devastating injury. I think he should feel good about that and move on from playing football.

ok, if we lose Dalton, I say bring him in and take a look. He has a ton of starts under his belt as well...

Alex smith is a last resort with me.
Not for a guy that age advanced who apparently is still having questionable durability and health concerns.
If Alex is your primary backup, then we'd damn better have a suitable 3rd QB option. I'd be that much worried if he could even get thru one game in sound health.

Alex is not gonna challenge a defense vertically, as he's subconscious about being that much of a a very careful bus driver.
But the mobility is gone and the durability issues become that much more of a concern. Even if he is a backup.
I'd want to look at other options If we could.

In Andy Dalton I like the game experience, mobility and his health status. i'm not quite as worried about him hitting the ground and not getting back up as I would Alex Smith.
Dalton could be effective vet backup if he plays within his means and limits and doesn't force the issue, while we best utilize the weapons around him and keep up the OL.
Be interesting to see what the FA market offers for Dalton.

If we're supposed to have a top QB coaching staff (McCarthy, Kellen, Mussenheimer) that can develop QBs i'd like to see what we can do with a Gale Gilbert
while Ben Di Nucci develops at a gradual pace.
