I don't think they can pry #2 away from NY unless somehow Prescott is part of it....or trading away the picks needed to field a decent defense.

I just can't see this FO getting successfully creative at all here.

The choices are really to sign him to huge money....

The saving grace here is the player is insisting on a shorter term....and the team can't kick the can down the road on restructures.

I personally think Prescott "betting on himself" and not signing a massive deal (with the huge bonus that goes with it) is one of the dumbest decisions in pro sports history considering the injury possibility, etc.

Yeah I think it would have to somehow be a 3 team trade.

The Jets would be stupid to move on from Darnold or Zach Wilson for Dak. That's not the move for them.

I think the Steelers would be a great place for Dak to go. The places Dak could go though is very limited which is why I would love to see an open market bid for him with the stipulation of giving us draft picks if we don't match.

if a deal isnt done within the next 2 weeks, hes either tagged and traded or they let him walk. THE LAST option is unconscionable.
I disagree because his cooperation in a trade would be required which would include another team coming to terms with his agent. Now, there's a chance that would be easier with another GM but this agent has no issue with tags. I do think the Joneses reputation for cratering is what is driving this in such a take it or leave it direction.

The other issue is Todd France knows what fans the Joneses are of Prescott. Just another problem with owners running teams.

And what team is going to trade for Prescott and pay him 40M a year?

The way I see it, they are dealing with TWO DEADLINES to try and get it done. March 9 so they won't need the tag and that doesn't work then use the tag and set a let's say April 15 drop-dead deadline for him to sign a take it or leave it final offer before letting teams know you're trading him.

They're talking about an extension with Rothliesberger. They'd pay him 40 before they would to Prescott.

desperate ones like the Jags.Don;t think for a minute that Khan and Urban Meyer wouldn't LOVE to have Dak Prescott be there starter day 1. Makes that team way better. Dallas would then have the number 1 pick. Sounds crazy..but not impossible. Jags have some good players. Why not trade Gallup and Dak to the Jags for picks?

Its gotta be a dumb organization....... Steelers are pretty savvy........too bad Elway isn't running Denver anymore.

Yeah and I don't blame them.

Better player.. No draft compensation.. He's won them a trophy.

It's been too wild of a thought for people to comprehend for awhile but dumping that contract has always been the smart move.

But..

The problem is the guy in charge doesn't make smart moves and the reality is he will keep kicking the can down the road only to cave and sign an awful contract in the end locking us into mediocrity.

Almost every deal we have done has been like this.. Deadlines make deals they say..

A Rookie Contract is too bold.. Too risky.. They won't do it. Dak is good for their business and keeping us relevant.

I would love for us to actually take a look at Trey Lance or Justin Fields.. Or heck get the guy that is very Aaron Rodgers / Pat Mahomes like in Zach Wilson.

Surely someone in that building knows that this team is not close to competing and this mindset of drafting strictly defense will get us nowhere. Our Championship window closes the moment Dak signs for a few years.
I've never seen so much BS in 1 post. You think QB's grow on trees don't you?

The smart move would have been to sign Dak immediately after the 2018 season.

At this point all the options are bad.

Developing a rookie QB takes time, and that’s assuming we actually get a good one, which is a crap shoot.

Expect more mediocrity from our beloved Cowboys.

if it looks obvious to the Joneses that we can't sign Dak reasonably with the years, I am calling teams and I would start with Jacksonville. Carolina would be another.

Highest probability odds are that Dak is tagged on non-exclusive and traded on or about draft day.
If he's on the non exclusive, they won't trade him. If he gets an offer he wants, the Cowboys have 5 days to match it or take 2 1sts from that team. They can only trade him on the exclusive tag with his cooperation. If they tag him, I think cooperation is out of the question.

Yeah it's a problem.. It's such a stupid move to trade for Dak and then sign him to that deal but going to a bad team is not the right move for the bad team or Dak.

Dak needs to go somewhere like Pittsburgh, New England, or somewhere like that. I just don't think they are stupid enough to give us quality picks for him and then turn around and pay far more money then he is worth.

Problem is the team doesn't want to lose him.

So they don't want to have to match a contract that was worked out with another team.

Personally I think a team would deal two firsts for him....but not unless they can sign him long term.....which is why he hasn't already signed with Dallas.

I'm beginning to think either Dak isn't sure about Dallas long term (face it, upper management is pathetic), or the agent is insisting on making a name for himself here.

The cashing in three years down the road thing when he knows first hand what could happen is a joke when he can get it all now if he wants.

I really don't see where this gets to 50-60 million a year for QBs. I guess France does.

But then I don't think the Steelers would have the cap room to sign Prescott would they?

That's the issue we face if we try to tag and trade him - finding a team that's actually willing to pay him circa $40 million a year.
