There are a few negative comments about him in this thread but personally I would be happy to take a punt on him. Not huge money for a position that seriously needs improvement.
I thought taking a punt meant passing on him......this whole thread has got me confused -!

You make it sound as though his skill set makes it only possible to play in 1 position in 1 scheme. If he can tackle, block and move we can use him anywhere. I am more interested in his ability to contribute in general. Our lb play has been poor and Sean Lee is spent.

Hopefully Quinn's DEF is not going to be so one dimensional we overlook players with a 3-4 skillset. Van Noy could be used in different ways

'Taking a punt' on something is a British slang term for a low risk bet or wager of some sort.
Weird, I have never heard that before. Upon research I am not the only one who thought it meant the opposite but your definition is absolutely right.

van Noy is another of those Bellychicken players who looks good but ONLY if he's in the exact right scheme. He was a bust in DET before NE picked him up and made him look good, and then went back to meh as soon as he got out from under Belly.

Unless we have a NE coach on board who knows how to unlock the secret of van Noy, he wouldn't be good here.

This is why, in English culture, a gambler or speculative businessman is often referred to as being a punter. Nothing to do with the NFL meaning of 'kicking it away'.

Has there ever been a player who left NE and actually performed as well as he did in NE? Brady is the exception but coaches and players that come out of NE in general disappoint.

Chandler Jones, Asante Samuel, Richard Seymour are all I can think of

2nd round pick with 16 total tackles in two years, no forced fumbles, no recovered fumbles, no passes defended, no interceptions and traded to New England for an exchange of 6th and 7th round draft picks. That is a bust for the Lions.

And yet, he is still in the League, went to NE and was a starter the next season and was productive. As I said, it's important for teams to understand players that fit into their own systems. Detroit never started him one game and yet, he goes to NE and is productive a year later. So who's the real problem here? Is it the player who clearly was able to play in the NFL or is it the Franchise who hasn't won anything in years, hasn't won a championship since 1957? You are entitled to your opinion but don't think your opinion is the truth for everybody. That's a mistake.

No offense to the OP*

Can't believe this non Cowboys thread was allowed to stay on this forum. When I posted a thread about Von Miller possibly getting released, it got moved instantly. I even see mods commenting on this one. Mods care to enlighten me about the proper rules? Because I don't understand the difference.

Hes pretty darn good. I think this is 1 of those Cap casualties that will ne happening often this offseason. I would take looksie
He's a 3-4 type... We will be returning to 4-3 base scheme thank goodness.
3-4 guy that’ll go back to New England and be successful.

Prime example of having to spend money on average players

Terrific player.

New England played base 4-3 during their most recent Super Bowl season and KVN was the leader of that defense.

KVN has what Jaylon does not have...Intelligence...

I agree, alot of these guys can play any defensive scheme. I would think our fans would get tired of labeling guys 1 way or the other. Seeing how that's why we missed out on TJ Watt
