2.1 million tender. He's a nice depth player but I doubt he garners much interest in free agency.
In a normal year you would probably lose him. this year there is going to be so much talent available due to teams trying to get under the cap that you probably retain him.

It's called team building. The likelihood of you signing Gallup to after this year is minimal, so you get value for him now (would not take less than a 2) & spend resource on other areas of need.
Making an elite group average to make a poor group also average is just building an average team.

Nothing matters if you don't have a top passing game.

not when he has had an opportunity. Given an opportunity he is just as good or better than Gallup. Not his fault he had to rely on Dalton and not Dak.
I dont believe this true based off of 2 good plays by wilson, but, if it were we need to trade Gallup.

Considering the injury he had in late 2019, I thought played well in 2020.

Plays ST, and is KMs gadget guy.

He is a very very capable WR4 IMO.

I believe we can still have a top passing game w/o Gallup. 3 WR1 is gratuitous (though, fun).

We need some parity with the defense and the trade has the potential to provide that.

Let us try something different.

With the cap being an issue, at least until a certain players' status is known.
What is everyones take on bringing back Cedric Wilson. As a RFA, per this article, he may cost too much to offer a tender.

And what tender should be given, if any?
They can go 3 different ones.
1st round at $4.7 million, 2nd round at $3.3 million, or right of 1st refusal at $2.1 million.

Could they let him go to FA, maybe get a comp pick, 5th to 7th round. And then look to bring Noah Brown back, for less, since he is a URFA, unless he too gets a better offer.
The WR position for the Cowboys is one of the best in the NFL. Cedric has proved that he can be a #3 or even #2 WR. Lends more ammunition to the idea of trading Gallup if they can get Wilson for a decent price.

He is valuable to this franchise. I would tender the 2.1 or even see if he would take a multi-year deal, that would count less against the cap this year.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

He is on the same page with Dak. Before Dak went down, he was on pace for a 800 yard year.

He is a core special-teamer, he is not just a return guy. You don't find that very often out of a WR.

He backs up all three WR spots. If any of the big three go down, you still have a decent to good receiver to put in. That's very valuable for a team whose best chance for a playoff birth is to outscore their opponents.

This was my thought. I mean Noah Brown is gone too, and that would only leave 3 receivers with any playing experience on the roster. I agree on the multi-year deal too. We know there's going to be a bit of a WR turnover the next couple of seasons and it would be nice to have a WR 3 or 4 who was also a special teams contributor locked in. Add another receiver in the draft and you've got a chance to keep what is the strength of the strength of the offense the strength of the offense.

You're one injury away from losing all of the advantage that comes with having 2 great WR if you move Gallup. With 11 personnel, all 3 WRs are starters anyway.

You don't need parity with the defense. The best way to get value for the defense with Gallup is to keep him and force opponents to be one dimensional.

1) Slot WR
2) Outside WR
3) Punt returner
4) Punt Gunner
5) Gadget guy/emergency QB

Bro, fork over that $2.1M or get a deal done.

I disagree and I believe last year proves my position. Even with all three receivers, Dak, and the OL largely intact we still lost games due to defensive ineptitude.

Not really. Turnovers - mostly fumbles - were the problem early in the season.

OK, not the historically bad defense giving up around 40 pts per game. Makes sense.
The point is that if the offense scores and doesn't turn it over, the defense is in a better position to get stops because the opponent has to be one dimensional. Falcons game is the perfect example of that, so is the second half of the Browns.

They were also just plain blowing assignments in the first month or so of the season, it's not like that was an accurate representation of what the defense is or is going to be.

The draft is very, very deep at wide receiver this year. Got no proof, just a gut feelin'.

Should be able to re-sign him cheap but nothing should get done until Dak is signed.

Board seems to be over rating him or maybe I need to go watch his highlights
