If Dak hits open market this year, does anyone think he would get 40m+ per year?

The fact remains...that Garappolo's contract set the market a few years ago. Now, it's not considered much for a good QB. Whether or not Garappolo is any good right now is irrelevant...it's the contract that we are looking at.

Those whining about Dak getting 40 million need to understand that in two years, it won't be considered huge for a QB contract.

That’s like saying Osweiler’s contract set the market. Jerry is redefining the over-inflated market.

12% of Dak’s yards came when down by 21 points, the rest of the 50% came when down by 17th in the 4th.

You see how stats work? Garbage time is still garbage time.
The rest of the 50%? What about the other 50%? Are we not counting those yards?

And what about the fact that it's not as if there would have been zero yards on the other 50% you are talking about had the deficit not been so big. Sure the yardage would have been less, but there still would have been plenty of yards for impressive stats.

Another point is that there isn't nearly the discrepancy in Cowboy points in the first and 2nd half when Dak was playing that some like to portray. There was a big discrepancy in the Atlanta game - which the Cowboys actually came back and won - but that wasn't the standard over the 5 games Dak played.

The point is that referenced statistic is utter garbage not that my ‘fake stats’ were real.

And Atlanta was blowing leads to every team, including allowing Foles to put up 20 points in the fourth quarter to come back. There is a reason Quinn was fired.

It's not utter garbage, but it is a little deceiving. Most of the time anyone puts out a single stat to explain a position they take it is deceiving. One statistical measure generally cannot tell a full story.

And sure Atlanta blews some leads - but that wasn't the norm. The Bears are one example, but in general the Falcons didn't have big leads.

And the big lead they had agains the Cowboys, the Cowboys made up in one quarter, not the entire second half with Atlanta playing soft like some claim Going into the 4th quarter the score was 29-24, yet some people like to say the Falcons were in a prevent with a big lead the entire 2nd half.

Dak without draft pick compensation: probably so. Two first round picks plus signing him? IDK.

I'm going with YES.

The better question is, in my opinion, whether Dak is worth that large of a percentage of your salary cap? I'm going with NO, dog. lol

A team on the open market might pay Dak a larger contract on paper but after state taxes and endorsements Dak gets playing in Texas and being a Cowboy he actually might lose money. I would love to hear an accountants view on this.

He gets very very close $38 - $39 Million....Panthers pony up the first day he’s available....there’s a private jet picking him up an hour after he’s a free agent and a press conference announcement the next morning....(Unless of course he has no desire to play there / that’s another thing)

He probably gets $42 million avg of 4 years from either Chicago, Washington, New England, Denver or Carolina.

Honestly, he would. Washington is apparently after him and need a franchise QB. They have ample cap this season, so a few extra million to get their guy and screw us would be ideal for them.

Everybody is saying Watson is there guy. I don't know that Dak has a landing spot there.

No way.

The guy comes from major injury.
The cap is going down in 2021.
What he showed against good defenses in 2019 was bad.
He wants a short term contract.

Let him go get it. Then watch him flounder on another mediocre team other than Dallas. I couldn't care much less.

Seriously, fans ask the wrong question, “Is he worth that much?”

The market for starting QBs who are not on rookie contracts and are not just holding the spot as a bridge to the eventual starter they hope to find changes every year and is seldom based on what a guy is worth.

38-40 million per year now is at or near the top, but in 2-3 years as the new crop of young, successful starting QBs get signed to extensions or second contracts, it is unlikely to even be in the top 10.

The real questions that should be asked are, “Can we win with this QB if we improve the defense?” and “Is a better QB option available to us?”

I get what you are trying to convey here Chuck but to me, the real question here is, "If you sign Dak to that contract, how do you improve the Defense?" So if we look at this from the perspective of, can we bring in QB options that allow us to be a better team, are there any out there?
