People kept saying the salary cap goes up. It didn’t and Dallas lucked out because of additional roll-over money and even with the roll-over Dak’s demands are way above what they can pay. The salary cap is less this year than last year already. Again, there is no such thing as infinite money supply.

So Dak “the leader”, who wants to see everybody get paid, with his demands is basically asking that everybody take a pay cut for the guy who in year 3, took a week to throw a TD in training camp and a guy, who when Zeke was suspended for six games, couldn’t even post double digit scoring against a winning team and struggled like crazy against the three bottom dwellers in the Commanders, Giants and Raiders.. Sure buddy.

Just get him out of here already...

Don’t forget he part where Dak gave Dallas the biggest discount in nfl history as he was maki g pro bowls as the 32nd highest paid starting QB in the nfl. Could have held out after year 3, didnt. Could have held out after year 4, didn’t. Could hold out now, isnt.

And now fans are upset he wants to be paid what others are being paid at his position.

Not saying anyone should. I'm just an old fan of the Dallas Cowboys and I'm as hopeful now as I am every off-season. I guess we'll see who is more correct in the weeks and months ahead.

I'm with you. I'm a 47-year-old "fan-boy" I guess. To me, the whole point is to get excited about the Cowboys every year. I don't think I am hurting anyone. I understand that only one fan base out 32 will get to celebrate at the end, but I enjoy the ride a little more if I have a little faith in my team. But, I guess I am just a silly fanboy.

Damn, the Cowboys are going to have to be creative in order to pay you know who. Lot of players are going to lose out on some of there earnings.

Not that creative. Getting it down to 30 million this year is actually not THAT hard. For instance 20 million base salary on a 4 year deal with a 40 million signing bonus easily does it and you can structure the rest to have a 40m AAV. Could even do the modern NFL contract thing where you guarantee next years salary at the start of the previous year which is a clever card that players have started using to make themselves uncuttable.

Randall Cobb and Robert Quinn didn’t improve this team? What are you talking about? Say what you want in hindsight but everyone on this site tried to put McCarthy in the hall after signing McCoy, Griffin, etc.
Nice try. Quinn wasn't a fa.

One player lolol..nice job

They believe they do, as do the Fan Boys here.

Despite the significant amount of evidence contradicting that notion.

Go back and read the posts each March.

OMG, Dontari Poe, Gerald McCoy, HaHa Clinton-Dix, and Daryl Worley are going to put this Defense over the top!

Signing bonuses paid for those 4?
$6,750,000

Cap room for those 4?
$10,756,250

Actual production for those 4?
14 combined games out of a possible 64 (4 players x 16 games) , 21 tackles, 0 sacks or interceptions.

Throw in the FO's refusal to admit Tyrone Crawford was a mistake and now that's $19.8M of cap room dedicated to 5 players who totaled 35 tackles and 2 sacks.

The Front Office's ineptness and hubris is why this Defense has been so awful.
I don’t think anyone thought he defense would be great. Most just thought it would be better then it was the previous season.

How much space would the Cowboy have if broke back didn’t steal money while holding an IPad?

How are we going to pay Devin Smith 20 million a year with the cap low and our QB looking to get paid. If we don't sign him and the Patriots sign him then we'll look like idiots. Jerry can't stand looking like an idiot and Devin Smith is one of "our guys". But seriously tho, there's going to be a lot of good players that are cut from every team cuz of he cap being low this year. A lot of players will have to settle for less money in this bizarre cap year. Unfortunately none of our players will cuz Jerry has no backbone.

I just don’t see how they give him another franchise tag knowing what they know right now about their salary cap. That’s is they went to actually improve this team in free agency.

Interesting to see how Dak takes it. Handcuffing the Cowboys' ability to sign free agents cuts into him too, *if he wants to win here*.

They really needed to decide on Dak last offseason. Sign him, trade him, or at least create an option to move on without him for this year. Draft somebody. Make sure they had an option on Dalton for this year. Something.

Now, as you point out, playing Dak on the tag is a really crappy option this year, and we don't even have the fallback to Dalton. With it being a crappy option, our trade leverage is lessened.

Too bad DaNooch didn't live up to his Romo II billing.

They have plenty of options to do what ever they want within reason
They can keep Dak, add FA, pay rookies
By now we should know there are plenty of options to add cap space
Some I wouldn’t do but they might
Just Dlaw and Martin contracts alone gives you decent money, cut Jones a couple mil
There are plenty of options

Crawford needs to come off the books 5 years ago.

The Crawford mistake was the worst. Didn't even ask him for a haircut.

Hate to say it, but you should add Sean Lee to the mistakes. 4.5mil. Not chickenfeed. OTC estimates his value at veteran min this year. Sad.
https://overthecap.com/player/sean-lee/658/

It really was stunning just how bad we were at evaluating defensive veterans last year. And we were a disaster drafting defense from 2016-2019. Just no accountability. Guess Nolan took the fall for the defensive vets. Some of that is fair, as he's responsible for widespread failures across the defense last year, but he didn't do the drafting for the previous 4 years.

Upcoming mistake - Not bailing on Jaylon before this year's 7.2mil is guaranteed.

In a year that free agent money will be squeezed by a declining cap, 7.2mil would buy you a *lot* of LB.
