Everyone give up on DiNucci?! Seriously I wonder if they let him off the practice squad. I could see rolling with Gilbert though. He if sucks in the preseason then have a vet or two on speed dial. If Dalton is willing to come back then that is likely the ideal situation because he knows the offense and the WRs.

I don't understand why some are in a hurry to ditch a late-round rookie after his first season. He may never develop into a Romo, but Romo had three seasons to work on his skills before being thrown into a game.

They cant afford to spend big money on a backup....and that means anything over 3-4 million. Gilbert is the likely candidate, but if they can get an older vet that wants a shot at holding a clipboard for a Super Bowl winner that would be the best thing. Or maybe a guy that has had some playing time but won't ever be a full time starter. For example, both CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens from SF have played some and been somewhat successful. Colt McCoy is also in the likely range. Smith would be a great mentor but I think he would be more expensive than we want to spend and I am not sure he wants to be a backup.

FWIW I do not want to dump DiNucci but based on what we saw last year he needs a lot of time to develop which is what the practice squad is for.

I'm cool with this, despite GG's first name.

Edit, Zen-like question for the Mods:
If you Like a post to someone that has you on Ignore, will they hear the tree fall?
Or is it the sound of one hand clapping?

Oh, I bet that would frustrate Jason Garrett. One hand clapping.
That’s how a hater gets their wings.... I think

If I'm the Cowboys I am NOT signing Dalton. Take the comp pick!!!

Roll with GG or sign a vet right before the season starts. Keep The Nooch to develop.

There's money for a good backup.
Bring back Stephen McGee.

I suspect there will be plenty of experienced backup QBs available once teams start trying to get under the cap.

Who cares. If a cheap backup can win games with this team you wouldn't need to pay 160 for 4 years of dak.

I don't disagree with that. However, it's also what the third QB spot on the roster is for IMO. Now, if he doesn't show enough that putting him on the PS looks like a risk, I'm OK with sticking him there. But we drafted him based on potential and I don't want to risk him to waivers if we start seeing that potential.
