So, what is his position? Are they going to play him at DE or bulk him up for DT?

Thought at first he was going to be a 3 tech but the team lists him at DE

Not a clue...other than Cowboys really wanted him as an UDFA. He got picked up by the Colts, but ended up back with the Cowboys.

Quinn has traditionally played guys at a 4T, so that might be a look for Carter

I get the tender, I guess, but why the exclusive tender? This FO makes some incredibly weird decisions.

All it means is he was an exclusive rights FA. Unless the Cowboys removed the flag, he could only negotiate with the Cowboys.

It's a standard tender for players with under 3 years experience(ERFA).
Similar to A Woods on our team the past few years.

When players reach 3 years experience they are RFA.
4 years plus experience they are unrestricted free agents (UFA)

To add to Johns explanation , it's what all teams do with UDFA's that made the team as their contracts are different than draft picks. They become exclusive rights free agents. They have to be tendered as a ERFA or they are unrestricted

An EFRA either signs the tender or he does not play. That is the offer. I guess the team could offer more, but they usually do not. It is kind of a take it or leave it deal.
They did this with Antwan Woods last year. Woods finally signed shortly before TC opened.

Carter has some rush skills.

I was upset when Indy grabbed him.

Has some upside as a situational nickel rusher IMO.

But....like Anae, needs a chance.
