Is McCarthy on the hot seat this year?

Now, many look for excuses.

The real problem is that's what the FO does as well.

To be fair, Prescott's foot bending unnaturally derailed the entire season. He most likely won't have that as a crutch this year.

That seems to always be the game plan.

I don't think Jerry actually believes he's a competent GM. He's said before that under normal circumstances, a GM as incompetent as himself would've been fired years ago. He just wants the fans to believe he believes he's competent. It's all part of the snake oil act that's led our subpar franchise to the financial success it's had since 1995.

Last season was a throwaway, just too much for a new coaching staff to deal with and the Cowboys haven't been a deep team since the 90's.

I am not saying injuries are always excuses, they can easily be reasons. In their defense, I thought they did a good job of signing a better back up QB and were better prepared for that. I do not know many teams prepared to play as many QB's as the Cowboys played last year and having a DC out of sync with his players caused an implosion. That was McC's fault, no excuse, bad decision and not the only one he made last season.

I would say he's not on the hot seat unless he starts that foolishness again. If he does, he's going to get called out a lot more than he was this past season and that could precipitate some action from Booger. McC can't make Booger uncomfortable as that is his job 1.

I think two words apply to him that also apply to the team, "good enough". His primary goal is to stay atop the NFL in all that matters to him.

Not taking a shot at him either, I'd bet 95% of those owners would like to trade places with him over the last 25 years. Screw the ring, the money's the thing.

In his last 44 games as head coach, he’s 17-36-1 (not quite 3 seasons as the packers fired him with 4 games left so he couldn’t lose them any more)

Aaron Rodgers bought him a really nice resumé up until that point, but if he doesn’t have a big year this year, that number will only get worse. Excuses only buy so much time.

Let’s say Dak plays 16 games, you go 8-8, team looks better than last year but you miss the playoffs. McCarthy is now 23-44-1, is it really worthwhile to bring him back again?

Not with this organization. Jerry isn't paying him the remaining 3 years on his deal to go away.

To a degree, yes if the moves that were made were his decisions. Looking at his history, it took him 2 years for a Favre-led team to turn it around. It took a Rodgers led team 2 years to turn it around and 3 years to win a SB. History can repeat itself if the main pieces stay healthy.

The man didn't have any players last year due to injuries. And w/his starting quarterback out, he did pretty darn well w/the hand he was dealt.

The one imo that needs improvement is Moore. His play calling is absolutely hideous!
Yeah, Dallas will get a full reset. Now we shall see what the real deal is. :) No excuses this time.

Are you kidding? Jerry gave the carrot top nine full seasons as Head Coach. Surely McCarthy is worth at least half that before he gets the ax.

In Garrett’s defense, he didn’t have a season nearly as bad as McCarthy’s until year... 5?

Maybe he should have been fired after 3-4, but he wasn’t this bad this early. That is what shouldn’t be defended
I think it's all situational. McCarthy's early lack of progress can be blamed on many other factors than himself. This coming season may not hold the same restrictions so a mulligan may be just the thing he needs to prove his value as a coach. In Garrett's 2nd full season, the Cowboys were just 8-8. We'll just have to wait and see how much the Cowboys can improve with 2 years of McCarthy as head coach.

Yea , some of those 4th down decisions he made early on were some of the dumbest we’ve ever seen. Couldn’t have made anyone comfortable.

The no offseason excuses gets me every time. No team had an offseason. No team had preseason games.

The injury excuse. We were 1-3 BEFORE the major injury's to the starters happened.

I bet Jerry thinks the same way you do. That's probably how Garrett was able to waste a decade of Cowboys fans lives. Jerry every offseason was probably like "ya know, if Romo didn't get hurt we would've went 9-7 instead of 8-8. That's not Garretts fault. We should give him another couple years".

Good coaches overcome injuries. Remember when Brady missed a season and the Pats still won 11 games? Remember when Brees got hurt 2 years ago and they won every game he missed (included beating us)? Good caoches win games when everything isn't going right.

When did Cowboys fans become so accepting of mediocrity? I remember when this fanbase was proud and expected excellence out of their team.

Ya now tell me all the teams that won games when 4 out of their 5 starting offensive linemen were out injured and playing with a backup QB for 12 games. Gee the patriots had that same coach last season they had when Brady went out in the first week but last season the patriots were only 7-9. According to you a good coach can over come any problem and the team wins. Gee the rams with McVay in 2018 won the NFCW and went to the Super Bowl but in 2019 they could only manage to be in 3rd place out 4 teams in the NFCW but again according to you good coaches win games when everything isn't going well. Are you starting to see what's happening. For every example you make about what really good coaches do I'll show one where they weren't as perfect as you say they are.

I serious believe that every real true Cowboys fan want's the Cowboys to win every year go year after year to the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean because they don't whine about it and that they are accept mediocrity.

What does any of this matter besides the fact that we were 1-3 before the injuries? Stop making injury excuses.

Ya'll act like we were lighting the league on fire before Dak broke his leg lol
