If the culture guy didn't win a Super Bowl then it strengthens the argument that culture doesn't matter lol.

"Only here 4 years" miss me with that trash. He was 10-6 year one and 9-7 year 4. His culture didn't work because he didn't have talent.
Like I said lazy...

Didn't help when Booger signed that coach killer Owens, he's a culture wrecker. Few teams foster distractions as culture.

I'm not lazy, your point is just stupid.

If culture mattered, and Bill Parcells instilled a great culture, then his record wouldn't have gotten worse over the 4 years he was here lmao

Nobody cared about that when they were 13-3 with him.

The biggest problem with "distractions" is that Cowboys fans cry about them more than anybody else. The Cowboys aren't different than any other team in that regard.

OK if you say so, but if your "proof" that his culture didn't matter is that is that he went from 10-6 to 9-7 - then dare I say it...

Better known as "the player" by Parcells. He wouldn't even use his name, which told me how on board he was with Jerry on that one.

I have missed 1 game in my life since 1965. My grandfather passed away in 1976 and I missed the game vs the St. Louis Cardinals that year other than that If Cowboys are playing I am watching. Been to every Thanksgiving Day game except for 2, the 1st one they played and last year due to Covid. And lucky enough to go to 1 SB game vs Pitt in 76 season when tickets were still affordable, the ticket price for that SB game face value 35 dollars. lol
My in person games were 1. early 60s watching Don Meredith vs the Baltimore Colts' Johnny Unitas at the Cotton Bowl! We lost. :(
Went to 2 others at Texas Stadium when our all-State high school marching band was invited to do the halftime show.
You were lucky as to see that SB game! I watched it in the dorm common area TV as a Freshman at SMU with a large group of other inebriated kids - the drinking age was 18 then.

And instead of letting Parcells try to acclimate him into the team, Booger started taking him to breakfast to befriend him. Owens needed some tough love and some growing up. He did do the right thing with those 3 1 year contracts to keep him in line but then he did the longer term and Owens became Owens.

Maybe us fans need to stop being comfortable enough with mediocrity and we stop buying a mediocre product.
Ding, Ding, Ding!!!

I started that three years ago. I will not buy tickets, hats, sweatshirts, tee shirts or golf gloves or any other piece of branded consumer good while Jerruh produces crap and mediocre products every year for a quarter of a century.
I was at the last SB win for the team and was sucked in every year thereafter into believing the hype that prevails every summer. Dallas wins the SB every summer and then exits the tournament early or does not make the cut. It is just stupid to expect anything more. Jerruh is a snake oil salesman. Stop buying the stuff that does not work.

Parcells would have won here if he did things his own way from day one.

Instead he let Jerry talk one of the innovators of the 34 defense into keeping Zimmer and his 43 because Jerry just extended him and didn't want to eat the contract.

He willed an awful team into the playoffs in his first year, and by the time reality set in the following year and he demanded his way (not enough success for stadium approval yet), two years of a time bomb relationship already expired.

Jerry got cocky over being right about Ware, and Owens did indeed make a huge difference on the field.

So he pulled his.....this is easy, I'll take it from here routine and forced Parcells out.

It was HIS team that had a one seed in 2007. They weren't ready to play that NY game, and Parcells would have made a difference.

On his way out, he said in a few years you won't even know I was here.

A special teams draft and a bit of time later....Wade was the scapegoat and Jerry felt like it was time to promote his hand picked project Jason Garrett.

We know the rest....

The culture thing is massive and is only different under a strong minded coach who commands respect.

Until that happens its all about nice guy Jerry.

Talent and culture are both needed, one or the other alone won't do it.

The closest the Cowboys came was the last SB team, enough of the talent and enough of the culture, as instilled and controlled by the players, was still around to win.

But even in that team talent was the bigger reason for the SB win, the culture was already on the downside and Switzer did nothing to stop that...

Rather Switzer helped it fall faster.

It's really this simple.

Jerry doesn't want to win, his overriding desire is to be known as the guy who built a winner.

I would say it a slightly differently, I believe he wants to win and he wants to be know as the guy that made it happen. The real question in my mind is does him knowing his window is closing (how many more years left on this earth) and the beating like he took for last years disaster (had to come out and admit they screwed up free agency) begin to change his mindset at any point?

If he so badly needs to be know as the guy that put it all together, then hire the best folks let them do it and then take credit for it if he needs too. If there is one thing we all can probably agree on is that he is a hell of a salesman.

True, but if he knows what it takes to win and refuses to do it, his wanting to win is highly in question.
