Cowboys believe biggest reason for defensive improvement will be Dan Quinn

Anything will be better than Nolan however I would temper the enthusiasm. Have a look at Atlanta’s defensive rankings during DQ’s time as head coach 2015-2020. Not good. Not good at all. He had good defenses in Seattle during 2013 and 2014. That was a special group though. This is typical Dallas crap of over selling coaches to distract and create false hope.
how much say so did the brass give Quinn when signing Fa's and in the draft room would be my question. I suspect he had some say so, but had to coach players he wasnt really on board with while in ATL. If this Fo allows him more say, I think we will see a quick turnaround. Makes no sense to hire the man if you dont listen to him and what he wants to cook the meal with. We shall soon find out I guess. Let the man put his stamp on this D. If not, may as well fire him now. It wont work..its a failed venture in that case.Simply hiring him wont be enough, period.

Just what I was thinking...Dallas is the place coaches come to have their careers die. They all think they can overcome Jerry's undermining ways, but in the end no one has been able to yet since Jimmy. He is the T.O of owners...
How does Jerry undermine the DC?

Undermining their coaching on the field?

Any coach would have looked successful with the talent Seattle had 2013-2014. Maybe Quinn had a hand in choosing and developing that talent. Hope so, otherwise we will be looking at 2015-2020 defenses.

Marinelli didn’t even last a year with Chucky. Oakland Defense under Marinelli stunk That is how bad he was. Maybe our defenses were held back by Marinelli.

Maybe coordinators make little difference.

The expectations for Quinn are way too low by fans. Just wanting better than last year is not enough. The goal should be a Top 5 DEF by the end of his 3 year contract

I think it was a large combination of both. A lot of players stink and the coaching was even WORSE than before on Defense. Recipe for disaster and it was.

Why did we expect the defense would be better last year with talent we let go vs the talent we added?

He must be a miracle worker to make Jaylon Smith read plays faster, and their free safety play the ball in the air better.
Maybe he puts Jaylon in a lesser role, just run down hill and hit a gap,, reduce Jaylons responsibility on this defense, that isnt a bad thing.
Neal was brought in and pursued to do just that,, Quinn already knows that there is a much more effective way to use Jaylon, and some of that time will be on the bench.

How long do you want this fan base to be patient for? I mean my goodness

doesn't matter what has happened in the past (just ask the browns or lions) , there is no defined amount of time to wait for a team to be successful again.

The way i look at it is we have a new coaching regime and its going to take at least 2 full real seasons before we have a shot a good turnaround...that means we build on what we finished the back half of last year with, hope for a year competing for a playoff spot as an NFCE winner then look to 2023 as the next big op for a championship contender.

can't just snap your fingers and expect to be good or say we have been suffering for 25 years so its time...MM and crew need time to draft a few years and build the team, its just what it is

Because it is an inherent trait by most of us die hards,, you wouldn't be posting on a Cowboys forum on a regular basis if you were not an insanely over caring fan...lol
So Jerry throws out some scraps to the dogs and we devour it every year... its the internal hope of a bigger steak possibly, some day, some year, some decade, some quarter century.

honestly i think it was fair to make that assessment until we had to go into the offseason programs with the restrictions. Yes i know every team did but we had coaching changes and were at a big disadvantage.

If the same were true this year i think we would have the same challenges.

Not to defend Jerry, et al but if McCoy hadn't gotten hurt on day 1 and Poe was even close to what he was in his salad days, that alone would been an improvement...

Ninja,, Marinelli didnt hold back this defense, he set it back a decade in development.

This won't be a top 10 defense, please get that out of your mind. All Dallas honestly needs is a top 15 defense with that high powered offense. Special teams must be stout as well.

Unless you want to be a super bowl contender. Honestly.
