He wants more than $6 million a year so there is no way Dallas will sign him, but he is exactly the kind of player they need at DT. And forget this 3T or1T BS. He is better than any DT the Cowboys have on their roster today. An upgrade is an upgrade. The Cowboys have invested very little on the DL. of the $28 million they are spending against the CAP this year, Lawrence is $21 million.

How did Seattle arrive at the decision to release this guy? What did they have behind him? Seems like he was a fairly productive guy most of his career. Was it just money?

Gallimore finished the season with a half-sack. That's not the kind of production you need at 3-tech. However, Nolan's alignment may have stymied his production. I'd rather not just count on that, though.
Reed was an immediate starter at DT, and he is now a stud, but his stats show why rookies take time on the DL.

2016 - 13 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks
2017 - 23 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks
2018 - 34 solo tackles, 10.5 sacks
2019 - 10 solo tackles, 2 sacks
2020 - 20 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks

Take away the 2018 outlier, is that production worth 10 million per year? I say, if you have 10 million, yes.

Neville Gallimore’s rookie season....late, limited play....lump of ****, Poe, restricted his rookie development.
2020 - 10 solo tackles, .5 sacks

I'm gonna trust the new defensive coordinator to make the decisions as to what is needed to make us better

How does someone get 9 sacks but still get a 56.3 grade on PFF?

Selling out for splash plays frequently means abandoning your actual assignment which exposes the men behind you. I'm not saying Reed wouldn't be an upgrade here, but we don't have the backers to cover for freelancing defensive linemen.

They can clear up $2.1 million by rescinding the tendered offer to Woods, and then bring in Reed.

He's a huge turd. Off the field issues, not very mature. There's a reason Seattle walked away.

He'd still be the best DT on this roster, though.

I don't understand why fans think 3-tech is fixed just because we spent a second-round pick on the position that has not been what we need at the position, a third-round pick who showed a little potential but not what we need at the position and brought in a couple of low-cost FAs who are not at the level we need starting at the position.

I think some don't understand how important 3-tech is in this defense. You need a dawg at the spot because it's the engine that drives the front seven. He's the guy that has to be blowing through the line to disrupt the run and get in the face of the quarterback for the defense to work the way it is meant to. If we're not getting consistent pressure from that position, we're not succeeding.
Yes, and while I remain positive about at least addressing some glaring holes, until we find that interior DL, we need both,, this defense will be exposed quickly and regularly.
Gallimore was a good start, just a rook in a bad year, showed some flashes,, lets not all be so Trysten Hill with Gallimore just yet,, I see some potential but we still need to go into this draft with DTs a priority, I dont care if they are
considered a 1T or 3T, if Nixon were still there at 44, I draft him all day.
