Anybody have an observation about Quinn's philosophy of getting to the passer?

With all these new safeties and FA signings..meaning we are going to be blitzing more.is Aldon Smith now considered a pass rush specialist type player if he returns which I would hope happens.

I used to barf at how little Marinelli blitzed to pressure the other team.He was a Freaking dinosaur as DC and happy if Quinn changes things up.i am assuming our new Safeties are going to be coming on 3rd downs now. Hope so. Anybody have an observation about Quinn and his philosophy of getting to the passer. Seems to me a couple of seasons back Quinn's defenses looked like a freaking jail break at times.

Waiting for my answers.Take your time. I got 30 days before the draft.

If you were paying attention to the McCarthy press conference you'd know the plan is not to implement the Dan Quinn philosophy.

Yeah, McCarthy says not much is changing on defense, so I'm optimistic for sure.
Players are changing and he mentioned improving the virtual learning process. That's it. Nolan got fired but his scheme is staying.

I suspect part of the problem with Mike Nolan was his approach in getting his point across. The players didn't like him. There had to be a reason. In the past, that's never been the case with Dan Quinn. Players take to him right off. It's been the word on him throughout his career. o_O

I'm not sure that's what McCarthy meant. I think his point really was that the scheme is going to stay multiple, where sometimes it's a four-man front, sometimes a three and sometimes even a five. I'd be surprised if many of the principles Quinn has used with success in the past are not used here.

Then prepare to be surprised. He spoke plain English that is not hard to understand. The meaning of his words was clear, no big changes in the scheme, doing more of the same. Nolan's scheme, not Quinn's.

I hate it. I prefer Dan Quinn's scheme.

Agree. I didn’t hear the press conference, but it seems like we’re getting players in FA that fit Quinn’s scheme. Either he didn’t articulate correctly (not surprising for McCarthy) or people are misinterpreting.

McCarthy has always been an offensive-minded HC. That's how he became an NFL coach from the start. I think MM would be making a big mistake if he forced Quinn to adhere to a defensive scheme that isn't agreeable to him. I got the impression that MM meant that the defense would be more condensed than what Nolan's version was but would be similar in some ways. I think we'll need to wait to really get a feel for what's what. Also, Dan Quinn has been aggressive about applying pass rush pressure in the past, so I expect that tendency to continue.

Here's the plain English that he said:

“Obviously, with the change in the coordinator and the coaches, we feel the direction where I see the team needs to go is going to come under the leadership of Dan Quinn. I’ve known Dan for quite some time and having the chance to be in position to hire him is definitely a huge asset to our football operations. Schematically, to the naked eye, or laymen’s terms, I don’t think we’ll see a whole lot because I think it’s important to build off of what we did accomplish the second eight weeks in our ability to take the ball away. There was probably some conceptional things that felt like our players really understood and played fast with which wasn’t evident in the first eight weeks. This isn’t a start-over situation, we are able to build off of some of the things we accomplished last year. That definitely was a part of my thinking. Having the opportunity to hire Dan and I really like the way the staff has come together. The energy, the enthusiasm, the diversity of some of the systems, so it’s an opportunity for improvement and I think we are definitely on the right path there.”

Your need to highlight certain phrases and not highlight others shows how you misunderstand what he is saying. Two can play that game.

Quinn got carte Blanche when he was hired. The FO had to have given him final say in this year's draft or doubt he would have come here. He must have given a list of must haves in order to take the job on. We are now going to see how good the scouting system will be. They have to knock this draft out of the park for Big Mike. And for Quinn. This is going to really be analysed. I do not believe any of this would happen to us happening before 2021 came along. Covid really exposed us as far as not being ready. Can 2021 be any better? Not sure.

Quinn has not been known as a big Blitzer only blitzing 22% of the time.

The only sure thing is that nothing's for sure until the season is over and that's too late to change it, anyway. ;)

I still growl at this staff. McCarthy is too secretive for me. He does not communicate often or well for my taste. But that's just me I guess.
