Thank you, Chicago Bears

The Bears are the only franchise that voted against expanding the regular season to 17 games. Sixteen games are ENOUGH for the regular season. We don't need this extra week of games. There are enough injuries already.

Most teams were lemmings that just went along with this dumb idea. Thank you, Chicago Bears, for being the lone voice against it.

It was never a matter of if, only of when. If McCaskey voted for the latest CBA, then he approved of the move to 17 games.

I do wonder what the owners will give up to get the eventual 18th game.

So, did it not go through? Already a big thank you to the Bears, but, if they managed to sweep the deal away from happening, the Bears really are heroes for this.

when the union and owners agreed to the last CBA, there was a provision that allowed the owners to add a 17th game to the schedule. It was only a matter of when they were going to do it. There was talk prior to last season they might move to 17, but covid cancelled that idea fast.

Yes, but did the vote have to be unanimous or majority?

I believe the ultimate plan is going to be 20 regular season games and 0 preseason games. It will take a few years to get to that point but I do believe that is what the league wants.

In order to change the game rules, i know it takes a 75% majority (24 teams) per the operations manual.

In this case, it is interesting that the ability to expand to 17 games was done via the CBA; that is negotiated under the auspices of the commissioners office... the goal is an 18/2 regular season/exhibition games, at least for now... in reading the updates on the nfl ops page it does say the nfl member clubs voted on adding the 17th game this season... I assume (yeah yeah, i know lol) that any measure has to pass by the same margin

They will keep the exhibition games, at least 2 just to see players in game action prior to solidifying the rosters...

It's all about perspective anyway. When the league went from 14 to 16 games, both players and fans were erratic. It did not go over well, not only adding 2 games to every team, but that when the bye week started too. Papers at the time said "take an entire month longer to get from start to Super Bowl." They were very aware it was a money move.

Imagine hearing in today's game that 16 games will ruin competitive balance and eventually kill interest in the league. Everyone is now used to it and it's completely normal.

Once we're used to 17, not a lot will change ultimately. Maybe a few more injuries throughout the league every year, but salaries will go up, players will put up bigger stats, and people couldn't imagine a season where teams regularly ended with a .500 record.

The NFL Players signed a terrible agreement. They went for the money and didn't really care about their long term safety and care. The NFL players continue to sign idiotic agreements compared to NBA and MLB. It's a shame.

* Uh* naw , I can't forsee a team's season schedule running 20 games & then post season ( the ZEBRA'S are involved in way to many of a games outcome the way it is already, best to keep "those guys" off the field as much as possible)o_O

Watch Your back Chicago, dissent is not tolerated.

They're now in that secret special file marked "Payback pending".
