Is Leighton Vander Esch healthy for this season, and is he part of the long-term plans for the Cowboys? If NOT time to sign KJ Wright and let the defense start doing voluntary workouts and film review on their own, and get a head start for the upcoming season.

Jerry if you gotta add void years to get the deal done then do it even if its 2 year minimum commitment!

Yeah I only saw one season where he was even decent, then he tanked in the playoffs and has been hurt ever since. With his injury history, I do not pick up his option and I definitely don't sign him to a long term deal or anything. I am onboard with those that say we need players who stay healthy. Everyone is sick of the Sean Lee's and LVE's no matter "how good" they are. They are never out there.

LVE should be a rotational guy, not starter. I think that would be good for him and his health. Better for the team. He's not good enough to start every week. KJ Wright should be signed and should start. Jaylon Smith is in the same boat as LVE. We really need to draft a good line backer as well.

LVE is not reliable enough to be a long term solution at LB for anybody.

He's not built for the NFL. His body just can't hold up.
He's Bobby Carpenter crossed with some Sean Lee..injury issues and all. Like you said, not reliable.

I personally hope they do not pick up the option on LVE, tired of players who cannot stay on the field.
Yup. If he returns to form just franchise him like they did dlaw. He doesnt deserve a 5th year option let alone a long term deal

Frankly, I think I might just start over at LB, especially if Quinn is looking like a long term option at DC.

I think he wants a different kind of LB for his system. Barring some sort of return to 2018 play, I'd cut Smith in the 2022 offseason and I would not pick up the LVE option.

I think LVE (as well as Smith) suffered, performance wise, under a horrible DC and his unwise system application.

LVE's health is a different issue. Necks and spinal cords are a tricky issue.

LVE has not earned a new contract. I am not sure he has earned a roster spot. I think this is his last chance. He needs to stay healthy and play well.

LVE is a decision imo. His rookie season he looked like a future all pro until the Rams game. 2nd season was a lost one, as was much of last season. When he did play he didn't look anything like his rookie year.

The talent is there. The question is can he get back to what he once was. It's a hard call to make.

I think he is good enough, he just can't stay healthy. What a shame, he is a top talent. jmho

Unfortunately for the Cowboys LVE has turned into a younger Sean Lee and because of his inability to stay healthy they have to let him walk. Jerry can't afford to have carry (2) ineffective LBers with long term contracts. It's bad enough having one over hyped and over paid LBer in Jaylen Smith running up the field 50 yds after finally reading an assignment correctly and making a tackle. If Jerry can find a way to sign Wright then he needs to pull the trigger on that deal.
