We will never see a play like that again from a interior dlineman. The man was country strong and fast. HE and Roger put us on the map.
Exactly right.

Unfortunately Larry Cole's contribution to that play gets overlooked because he didn't end up with the sack, but he was the first one in the backfield and helped contain Griese so Lilly could get the sack.

the defense we had that year rivaled Doomsday defenses we had later with Too Tall and even the defenses we had in the mid 90's. It was really great.

As a kid and playoff suffering Cowboy fan and the culmination of so many playoff losses (especially to the Dolts in the SB) and the "Can't win the big one!" label this one fired this teenager up. I could see the handwriting on the wall :

Can never find a proper video but James Washignton's fumble return in the 2nd half of Super Bowl XXVIII.

So awesome, seemed like it was happening in slow motion, a tight game and it was a huge turning point, should have been MVP that day.

Big game player James Washington!!

he was an unsung player in many respects. I think Donovan Wilson is very much like him.

Staubach to Hill TD in last regular season game in 1979. Rogers last regular season game and Cowboys won the east in the most exciting regular season game I ever saw...
I was 10 years old when I saw this. Roger made a huge impression on me well before this game, but it solidified him as a legend for me. You never thought Dallas was ever out of a game after this one.You just believed they would win.Even when White took over in 80...there was that belief. This game took the Landry aura to another level. To my point, Dallas played in 3 straight NFC title games in the early 80's after Roger retired. THIS GAME had a lasting effect on this team in the coming years, fans as well. Its one thing to be talented, and they were, but its next level stuff to BELIEVE that you would find a way to win, no matter score.

yup and we still had Tolbert too...another stud edge guy that was just a gamer. Could you imagine trying to block all these guys? lol..I mean if you doubled Haley, then it freed up the interior guys too..lol...what a nightmare it must have been for opposing teams.
Yep. I dont want to get off topic on this nice thread, but there was no real dropoff from 1st team to 3rd and they were always fresh.....it allowed those fast LBs to make plays. Just an all around tremendous team.

I recall thinking Washington was robbed at the time as well....but....

While on the subject of sb28, and it's not one specific play so may not qualify here.....the drive to start the third quarter was all Emmitt, and changed the entire tone of the game in our favor.

He just imposed his will on the very biggest stage.
