My quess is we have not had many since we have won so much for so long that we do not normally draft there. I have no idea where to find this. I know some of you know where info hides. Enlighten us. Thanx. I would settle for a list of any #10 picks that went on to be notable. Thanx for taking a stab at this. Hopefully it will indicate something.to chew on.

Title should read
"Who knows how our #10 draft picks of the pasthave turned out for us"Spell check and I are at war lately..wish it had an easy button. Do you guys ever hate your spellchecker? It's like your 3rd grade teacher at the blackboard looking over your shoulder correcting grammar and sentence structure.

Yikes. Next they will be having a program that underlines adjectives and adverbs to place them in the correct place. We will all just use voice to dictate our posts..some of you are doing that already I see. Early adopters..hmmmm..

Looking at that list the organization as a whole has a pretty good track record for evaluating talent. You could argue an Alvin Harper is not worth #12 overall but without him I doubt the team of the 90s have the success they did.

2009 was the infamously disastrous backup draft.
1995 was similarly terrible.

Those are the only years in the 7-round era that the Cowboys have made double-digit selections.
Remember, there's no guarantee they'll make 10 picks this year.
I wouldn't read too much into those drafts. They didn't have a first-round pick in either draft, for one thing.

Also, we've made 9 picks in 4 of the last 7 drafts, so it's not like this year is a huge outlier.

Ah, I misread the OP. I thought the question was how we've done when we have 10 picks in the draft, not the #10 pick in the draft.

First time Cowboys have the #10 overall.

Since the NFL merger the Cowboys have had 11 players drafted higher than #10. many teams have three times that much. Three of the players were drafted by the Cowboys as the result of a player trade, a #1 pick overall and two #2 picks overall. This makes sense considering that the Cowboys didn't actually "earn" a top ten pick through a losing season until 1988, Landry's last season.

The top ten picks are composed of 1 QB, 3 DB's, 4 DL's, 2 RB's and 1 OL.

Three are in the Hall of Fame. Only one, Morris Claiborne, had 0 Pro Bowls, the other 10 had at least 1.

The Cowboys technically had another #1 pick overall through the supplemental draft when they chose QB Steve Walsh.

Year Pick# Pro Bowls
2012 6 Morris Claiborne DB 0
1998 8 Greg Ellis DE 1
1991 1 Russell Maryland DT 1
2003 5 Terence Newman DB 2
1974 1 Ed Jones DE 3
2016 4 Ezekiel Elliott RB 3
1977 2 Tony Dorsett RB 4
2002 8 Roy Williams DB 5
1989 1 Troy Aikman QB 6
2011 9 Tyron Smith T 7
1975 2 Randy White DT 9

How did Tony Dorsett only make four pro bowls? That surprises me.

He cracked 1200 yards only four times and made the Pro Bowl on three of those occasions (his fourth Pro Bowl was the strike year). In 1985, he had 1305 rushing yards, behind Gerald Riggs, Walter Payton and Joe Morris, and Roger Craig also made it based on rushing for 1000 yards and receiving for 1000 yards. Those guys also had more TDs than Tony (Morris had 21).

So there were usually a number of guys ahead of him in yards, and he didn't put up spectacular TD or receiving numbers.

Dorsett was used very wisely by the Cowboys. He had good numbers but they were never gawdy. This was during the times of Walter Payton, Franco Harris, Earl Campbell, John Riggins, Ottis Anderson....all great RB's.

Dallas has done very well drafting in this area.
Picks 8-12 last 25 years alone

Tyron at 9
DWare at 11
RW31 at 8

So 2 Hall of Famers and a a first team All Pro.

This is a great area of the draft to be in.
Decent enough team around whomever you draft and a really good player available basically every year.

Dallas went TNew at 5, Mo at 6. Zeke at 4. All those guys are good players but it is so hard to get true high draft value return from guys. Almost lends to trading down when picking that high unless you need a QB.

The Cowboys overall do a great job of drafting despite all the negativity surrounding the team...

every team hits and misses and over looks players....you may even have one bad draft as a whole bit overall our drafting has been excellenet
