Having a historically bad defense last year and not getting any impact free agents on the defensive side of the football make it impossible to draft Kyle Pitts, should he fall to us. Unless they decide to follow up the draft with signing a KJ Wright, Geno Atkins, Richard Sherman or someone of that ilk. Would they be willing to spend for a big name player in free agency? Hasn't happened since Brandon Carr. But if they wanted to go all in for the 2021 season, they would draft Pitts, go heavy defense with the rest of their picks and then go out and get an impact free agent that would help make this a viable defense to go along with what would be an outstanding offense. Then we'd be cooking with gas!!! What say you?
sorry the cause of our bad defense isn't because of not signing impact free agents....free agents are either old, injured, head cases or if any good very expensive and you over pay. the list you provided is exactly that. none of them are impact players, they are better than what we had... Atkins is old and lazy now. KJ Wright is 31....on the wrong side of 30. Sherman is not yet signed by anyone. he is at best a role player for a superbowl ready team. ......
the problem or root cause of our bad defense is because of eyars of bad draft, 15 years, 43 picks. one impact player....everybody else is ho hum or gone....you can not, build a defense through FA. again, you can't build a defense through FA. I am against signing any of those players, because at their level and age they all going to be overpaid.
with that said. its critical for us to hit on the first round pick. in the past 10 years, we have missed on every defensive player picked in the first round....but have been successful offensively..... so I am with you on taking Pitts. he is a generational player. would allow us to trade Jarwin or schultz. I agree we need to go defense heavy this year and next....
