Be prepared for another poor defense anyway. There is not a defensive player in the draft that is going to have a big impact in their rookie year. You can call it bad luck , but this is not an elite class of defensive draftees. At best, they might draft a solid long-term starter with the 10th pick. I honestly don’t care if they go after Pitts or pick a defensive player. It looks doubtful for this draft class to have much of an impact on the defense in their rookie year or there 2nd year with the team. If they take Pitts, it will not hurt the defense or make them any worse than they was already going to be. Free agency would have been the only way to improve the defense in the coming season and Dallas don’t sign FAs that are difference makers.

Yeah, your prob right. I suppose I’m dreaming to think that the FO can hit on 3-4 defensive starters and/or depth. I personally don’t think we’re as far as some think on defense. Mike Nolan really made a mess of our defense.

We’re returning to a defense this team is familiar with.. minus Marenilli’s stubbornness for jag DL’man. Donovan Wilson emerge as a player at safety and we signed a proven FS in Kazee. Diggs looked good and has another year under his belt, Brown and Lewis are easily good 3rd string CBs, maybe better. Neal is a nice signing, Fingers crossed LVE can return to form, but I’m done with Jaylon.. maybe he’s a Sam LB. Lawrence and Gregory are solid and Basham was a solid sign but we need more Anae. Gallimore is a stud, Trystin was showing potential before getting hurt and we added marginal depth.

I’m not arguing, I just believe this defense could be formidable with 2-3 solid additions. This draft has the players to make it happen, the question is.. can Dallas pull it off? But one things for sure.. if you trade away draft picks to pick Pitts.. there’s no chance.

I don’t know what Pitts will be.. but I do know there’s been a handful of these “generational TEs” over the last ten years.. and none of them have worked out. Just look at the top TEs in the league.. most have been picked beyond the 1st round. That reason alone is enough for me to have doubt.

I've been all on the Pitts train at 10 but not interested in moving to 4. Then it's no longer a value pick. Trading to 7 or 8 would be easier and I think the Cowboys may have to just to avoid the Eagles or Giants jumping us.

It would be stupid to trade up for him but just watch Jerry do it to make a splash

I would not mind Pitts, but not in a trade up. As we would lose a valuable draft pick.
Give me 3 defensive players in the the 1st 3 rounds. Helps overall team far better.

if he falls to 10, we can still get 3 defensive players as we have 4 picks in the 1st 3 rounds.

Sure. Trying to win 45-40 shootouts every week has worked so well for the last decade

I'm all for taking Pitts at 10 if by some miracle he falls. He will definitely be the BPA if he gets to 10, and I'm all for that.

Trading up for Pitts is where I draw the line. If they somehow move up a couple spots by giving away a 3rd, I'd cringe but accept it. They absolutely cannot afford to give up their 1st and 2nd to grab Pitts, not with this defense. That would go too far.

I’m sensing more smoke than fire here

Agreed. Even for Jerry, trading up for Pitts sounds far-fetched.

If Pitts was Chase Young I would trade up for him but he is not even close. Please explain to me how Pitts improves our team. Pitts is supreme talent no doubt but he is dependent on the quarterback. The only benefit to drafting Pitts is the Cowboys will be must watch television but when we have to play in the cold in Washington or New York the offense will sputter and defense will get run over again. Go Cowboys!!!!

At this point here is what I see cooking in Jerry’s head

“We changed coaches on D, that’s enough right? Let’s have the best set of WRs/TEs ever!” (Claps hands together like hot diggity and sips some JW Blue staring off into space)

And honestly this might be close
