Going with a new name, Ryan Fowler LB.

Back when our linebacker core was super meh he was someone I thought could become a starter. My college team is in the acc and he was a tackling machine at Duke.
Since I'm a suckered for udfa players I had hoped he could be a consistent starter in ~2005 I believe when injuries put him in a starting role.
Bounced around the league and I think got popped for peds

Some of my personal overrated pet cats:

Dan Williams, DT
Darius Jackson, RB(Yup, I was one of the ones who fell for him!!!)
Daniel Wise, DT(Was ecstatic when we picked him up, thought he could play!!!)

Rico Gathers - the most over hyped, over rated player ever on the cowboys....there were at least 500 threads on Rico and people wanting him to replace Witten
Tashard Choice - He sucked. Fumble prone. big head. over rated. couldn't read the OL and react quickly enough....some thought he would be better than ES...go figure

Probably Julius Jones. Thought he was going to be the real deal. I was at the MNF game where he ran for 198 yards and three TDs, which, only throttled up my hype train. While he had a flash in the pan season at the end of 2004, running for just over 800 yards in 8 games, his career ultimately fizzled away due to injury and inconsistency.

I do have a current Pet Cat as well. Cedrick Wilson Jr. :D

I'm w/ you on Wilson. Couldn't believe we got him in the 6th.

Definitely Rico Gathers in thinking he can turn into Antonio Gates.

Also what about Drew Hensen? Anyone else think we may have finally found our Aikman replacement? Lol

For real lol... Troy loved him some Lafleur. That dude was supposed to be a monster. Guess we should have known he would be soft when his name means “The Flower”
Aikman needs to stay far far away from ever being GM for the Cowboys as some advocate/ He's pushed more than one overrated player........and been WRONG.

In Lafleur’s case— the guy had ALL the measure-ables and more than looked the part of a dominant TE.

I can’t blame Troy for getting infatuated with a prospect like that considering the success he had with Novacek

Yeah, I don’t get the use of pet cat. Pet Cat to me is an under the radar player most people are unfamiliar with or an unknown player who flashes in camp and I want to see more of.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounders don’t count as pet cats to me.

Rico Gathers is a good example of a player who became a pet cat to many. Beasley is another. No one can call Sean Lee a pet cat.

Some people are using the term pet cat for a player with high expectations. It is incorrect. But sometimes the meanings of words morph into something else.

McClay referred to Robinson as his ‘pet cat’ last year. A player little known but could surprise. So keep an eye on him. Pet cats require an element of surprise from an unknown player.

I don't get why the term pet cat is used for any football player. It makes as much sense as saying pet turtle or pet rock. Why not call then your favorite fire hydrant or your flavor of slurpee.
