I was at that game. My junior year at TCU. Poor McPherson got killed.

He needs to be around 180 - 190 to be a dominant receiver. Tyreek Hill is 185lbs.

I don't think it helps Smith especially if teams decide to play press and throw off the timing.

That said, he put up numbers in college against premier talent so you can't cast him aside. I'm not entirely clear he's an alpha dog #1 in the NFL a la Chase, but I think he can be a good #2 option that can put up some stats.

Wouldn't be shocked if he's an Eagle or Giant come draft day.

If Smith gets to 180-185lbs he'll be just fine. We're at that point in the draft where the only way to make news is to tear down highly regarded prospects. It happens every year. Don't get swindled. This kid is an elite talent. He's not going to take any of those ridiculous monster hits some of you are predicting because 1) the NFL has all but outlawed them and 2) he has an incredible feel for the game and instinctually avoids that stuff. People tried to get physical with him this year and he ate them alive. Much ado about nothing, honestly.

One thing to keep in mind with Smith in regards to going over the middle is that the big hit has literally been legislated out of the game. A telling quote from the A Football Life: Jimmy Johnson episode was when Johnson and Belichick were on the boat fishing, and they were talking about how the game changed. They mentioned that now on over the middle plays, the safeties are more nervous than the receivers because they can't hit them anymore without seeing a flag or a fine.

What would be problematic for Smith is whether he can get off the line consistently against press man coverage.

He had an amazing year, in an amazing team, but if Chase and Waddle play and he's not in the 1st round. They cannot play and be in the top 10.

He's just not built to be a WR1 in the NFL. Antonio Brown and Tyreek Hill are both 5'10" but 185 and faster than Smith.

Smith is Desean Jackson II and will most likely have the same injury issues.

Isn't DeSean Jackson around that weight? Think Smith can play in today's NFL, but those old scouts probably hate taking these undersized players.
