Really hope Cowboys don't touch Zaven Collins

Exactly.

I wouldn’t have spent a first on LVE and I wouldn’t on Collins. I’d rather take a chance on Phillips medical concerns than Collins. At least there’s a chance you get a guy that can be a game changer. 43 DE’s can impact the game.

At LB you just need quick a guy that can chase and hit. Those can be found outside the first round. A 6’5” 260 (270?) pound off the ball LB isn’t going to be what this defense needs. He may be able to change direction very quickly for a guy that size but he still won’t have the quickness that a guy like JOK will have. That is what Quinn needs at LB.

Now tell me that Dallas wants to use Collins as a LEO, and send him after the QB... that is a different story. But to just use him like they use LVE? No thanks.

Totally agree, much rather take a chance on Phillips then Collins. Really believe Collins is destined to become a 3-4 OLB. Off the ball linebackers, typically can be found outside of rd 1, Wagner, Warner to name a few. I just would hate to spend a top 15 pick on Collins, when we did a few years ago with Lve who he would be replacing.

Quinn has to adjust his scheme to the player if needed.

We need to concentrate more on getting the best players. I'm hoping 'Quinn's Scheme' is reigned in and McCarthy has installed into him that we are looking for high quality versatile players and go from there
Quinn's scheme isn't multiple, it's very generic and simple. Front 4 needs to create pressure, linebackers will be in zone coverage.

Maybe, but McCarthy said the following:

'
  • McCarthy claimed that it won't be a "start over" situation with the defense under new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and said that the focus should be less about 4-3 versus 3-4. The emphasis should be placed on "technique" and fitting a system to your players, he said. McCarthy used the word "multiple" to describe the plan for the defensive scheme.

Multiple up front with the DL. MM said the same thing last year and they forced 4-3 players into a 3-4 scheme.

Why wouldnt you spend a first on an all pro player? That doesnt make sense. You tell me I'm getting an all pro at 10 I take him unless its a special teamer. The logic is suspect in this thread

Another issue....Tulsa.

Level of competition.

I could swear I read somewhere last fall that this was an issue for Reggie Robinson.

Is that when they fell so in love with Collins, when they were scouting Robinson last year?

If it's the same person who concluded both, I'm not encouraged.

He had 3 sacks vs Oklahoma State.

Who told you Collins was an all pro?

And the answer is that I wouldn’t skip on an all pro player... which tells you that I don’t believe Collins will be that.

If you do that’s fine but it’s quite a leap to make him all pro when he’s only played at Tulsa so far.

If Quinn gets a vote, does Collins fit the Bobby Wagner/Deion Jones type of LB he seems to like?

I was a big fan of Zaven until I came across some game where he was soft **. He got blocked and fell to the ground so easily I couldn't believe it. Now dude is 270?

I like what NY posted about him being looked at as a SAM by Dallas which would be a fit, but you can't justify a 1st rounder for that role...Charles Snowden much better pick later in the draft at SAM.

For the record it didn't matter the competition level Reggie Robinson just wasn't a good football player coming out of Tulsa.

What game/games?

If he's billed as a healthy LVE what is that called?

A projection. It’s an educated guess.

You can’t just find a comp for a guy and then call him an all pro. Not to mention that LVE isn’t even an all pro.

Anyway, I get it. You really like Collins as a prospect. I really don’t for this defense. It’s ok.

Healthy LVE was an all pro. But yea its fine to disagree. I think Collibs will be a great nfl player but I dont care if we pass on him. I just responded to people who think hed be a bad selection or fit.
