How do the Cowboys mess this thing up?

Derek Barnett. Great college production; very underwhelming in NFL.

But agree to disagree.

Derek Barnett is the opposite extreme. He had production but wasn't very SPARQ friendly. So he's not the best example here to make your point. He had red flags due to the fact some teams worried he couldn't translate to the NFL despite being productive in college.

If you are picking at 10, I'd hope it would be a guy that has the SPARQ scores that can project to this level but also the production to back it up. History is littered with SPARQ warriors who didn't quite cut it in the NFL.

It's finally here, draft day! I want so badly for the Dallas Cowboys to do well. It's time for cowboyszone to see better days, championship days again. But I can't shake this feeling that Jerry's ego is going to once again waste all this draft capital. What happens this evening will change the course of the Cowboys, for better or worse. Will the infatuation of an old man come to fruition or will the others in the FO correct that course? It seems we've been here before, deja vu all over again. We live in interesting times.

Is this the year we make 2 1st round picks? Would hate to see us give up next years first to make this happen

To mess it up: trade back and draft nothing but medical risks with marginal athleticism.

Sorry folks, it's still in the back of my mind the Cowboys are going to find a way to mess this thing up. Looking at all the talent available you'd think that's just not possible but if past years have taught us anything, we know it's possible. Does anyone else have this impending doom feeling maybe a small bit?
Trade up for a kings ransom for Pitts.

The old saying, where there is a will there is a way. :p

On a serious note...just don't try to get too cute.

Nothing wrong with trading up or down in the draft as long as you don't over do it.

I imagine with 10 picks there will be some trades made but hoping it is within reason.

They just need to be lucky. It all comes down to the football gods. No matter what they do, luck will be a huge factor. There is no clear right and wrong here.

The scouts have spent months gathering data so Will McClay can put the draft board together but it all comes down to luck?

I don’t think they’ll mess up if they just sit at 10 and pick. I’m pretty sure one of Horn or Surtain will be there and they’ll pick him. That is a smart, good move.

IMO, the only way they could mess up is if they move back. By doing that, they could trade away from talented players and draft a guy that doesn’t really help.

They could also trade back and hit a home run too... so a trade back doesn’t mean they screwed up. However it ups those chances I think. If they move back 5 or so spots, pick up another premium choice and get a guy like JOK, then that could be very, very good.

But they could mess up and get the wrong guy and regret moving away from the better talent.

If Surtain and Horn are gone at #10 and they trade back then select Tevin Jenkins, and get a 2nd round pick, I would be okay with that. Then in round 2 if the get Stokes, or Samuel, I'd be okay with that too. This draft is going to be about the first 4 picks. The first one may not be exactly who we need, but they can make up for it in round 2 and 3. What we want are 4 solid picks in the first 3 rounds.

Yeah, there are definitely scenarios where they trade back and do great... but there are scenarios where the board is picked over and they don’t get a good guy.

It’ll be interesting.

I think the one thing everyone fears, trading up for Pitts. Because it would cost a lot. I don't get worked up over it, but people fear this.

I just hope the war room camera is on when Jerry makes that jump into the first 5 picks. Atlanta might get an offer from Jerry they can't refuse.
