So.....Chicago decided they wanted Fields but didn't pick up the phone until pick 11?

If thats what's needed to rationalize this mistake, have at it.

If I could convince myself that Chicago isn't about to have a very bad season I'd feel better about it as well.

I'm definitely a huge Bears fan next year, as I'd much rather be wrong and happy.

If that pick ends up being top 5 (think Houston 2020) and the Giants deal it off for a massive haul that continues to build their team....gonna be a tough one to swallow.....unless Parsons ends up delivering in a big way, which is definitely possible.

My real point is that turning down that Bears pick has to be factored in on the Parsons pick, because they obviously didn't want to risk losing him.

Really though....all fine....just that when people say that deal wasn't offered its only a way to attempt to rationalize the mistake, or not have that part of things tied to Parsons.

Again, hope I'm very wrong and Parsons is a force and the Bears win 10 games.

Let's see.
Yep. The Bears trade with NY was huge part of us getting Parsons at #12. If NY stays at #11 they could have taken Parsons.

I think the Bears prob had QB on their priority list. And when they saw Fields who was probably high on their board not selected early felt the investment was much less than if he’d gone earlier. And since they were #20 figured he wouldn’t still be there with Pats at #15 also slated to take a QB.

While I understand the love for Slater, this pick was needed. How many times have I been here last season and read comments on how the whole defense was trash and our linebackers are bad. Now we have 4 picks in the top 100 hopefully trending along with more defensive players.

What we need now is DL to help our linebackers clean to make plays. Specifically a guy that consistently takes on 2 blockers. Idk who that is. We definitely don’t have him on our squad.

Blanket statements like “best defensive player available” is such a lazy way of looking at it.

There is a mountain of context.

I too would like the best defensive player in the draft but I would prefer it be a guy that doesn’t play like a linebacker from 1993 that we have to hope can play like a modern day player is supposed to play.

But, Parson's DOES play LB like a modern day player is supposed to.

You can keep saying he doesn't, but that doesn't make it true.

It was him or Slater. Imo Parsons is the better prospect. Really good OL talent available day 2. Safety is really deep and none have even been selected yet. I also view this as a solid DT day 2 draft class. Heck I wouldn’t be that mad if we considered like a Brevin Jordan type talent since we have so many picks

No he doesn’t.. He plays sideways and downhill.

Everything else is a gigantic work in progress.

You guys hate Jaylon Smith but want to cheer on a player who does the same things well on the field that Jaylon Smith can actually do.

We had a historically awful run D last year— so drafting the best LB and one of the top graded run defenders and tacklers is a “mistake?”

Riiiiiiight. Someone wanted to have a “hot take” and grab some clicks.
Do you know how to help your run defense??

Beef up front... if your losing in the trenches like we were with our smaller/weaker DTs your gonna have your LBs swimming with olinemen on them.

Getting another new exciting LB who can run sideline to sideline is cool but if he’s having to fight off linemen all game he won’t be free to make plays.

Never forget when Ray Lewis all but told the ravens to draft Ngata because he needed beef in front of him to allow him to make plays

If it was a bad pick why the B grade lol
They didn’t take the guard so they hate the pick

Jerry already said that he had the highest grade on their board. Not some ESPN board. They decided they needed defensive help and needed to help their
new DC. The talking media heads think they know everything but, no nothing really. They just flap their gums and let gas bombs. Losers all.

That's actually a fair way of looking at it.

I'm slowly getting over it. Go Bears! 10 wins at least.

Meh.

Jerry always says that.

Promise you he says they had a first round grade on whoever pick 44 is.

Tickets to the left, jerseys to the right.

A super bowl would do that like nothing else. He wants one. He just can't get out of his own way.

Ok....found it!!

Was looking for your take on this. I'm about livid.

For all of your wishing for big draft capital....to the point of wanting to lose in the short term for long term gain.....I would think you'd agree.

People trying to say it wasn't offered irritates me even more.

Did Chicago decide it wanted Fields between picks 10 and 11? No. They made the call to Dallas and were turned down.

If it were an offer from a top team, I may have said no as well....but we are talking very good chance it's top 10, outside shot for top 5.....but we HAD to have that replacement for a past mistake.

Grrrrr....

Good chance Chicago drafts in the top 10 next year, and out side shot at TOP 5? Not sure, what Chicago team you have been watching, but it certainly isn't the one everyone else is. Chicago has one of the top D's in football despite not having a QB that could stretch the field if there lives depended on it, and constantly keeping the defense on the field. And they upgraded at QB already with Andy Dalton. And that doesn't even take into account if Fields is the real deal.

This talk about Chicago being a bad team, is beyond ludicrous.

Watch the video of post draft news conference. Jerry offered a reporter the chance to see their board if he would fork over $1000.

I’d rather have the best defensive pick that was available
I don’t see the huge oline need some do
McGovern is set to replace Williams this year or when he leaves
Knight looked good enough to me to be a RT if we need one and salter to me will never be a great LT
Last year was an utter and complete shift show...and you see zero need? Hmmm...
