Overall, I thought the Cowboys did a good job in this draft. They did not get any of the players I hoped they would but there is more than one way to win a draft. I am not sure what happened in the 3rd round but if they had done a few things differently this might have been a great draft.

Round 1. Micah Parsons is a good player. I probably would have taken Slater at that point or tried to trade down to spot where I could take Farley, Stokes, or Newsome, but I get why Dallas made this pick. Parsons is a good player and will probably be a starting LB very early in 2021.

Round 2. I think Kelvin Joseph is good to be a really good player. Kevin Smith before the injury. I would not be shocked if he turns out better than Trevon Diggs. Joseph is fast, athletic, and has ball skills. After missing out on Horn and Surtain, Joseph and Samuels Jr. were the two guys I thought they needed to get in the 2nd. They took Joseph who is a little taller and faster. Good job here.

Round 3. The Cowboys just missed on McNeill, and Milton Williams. This entire draft it seemed like the teams ahead of us knew what we wanted and picked them before we could. But Osa Odighizuwa is a pretty good player. Then the Cowboys hit the weeds and off the rails they went. I don't think Chauncey Golston is going to be any better than Dorance Armstrong. I have a gut feeling Anae is going to blossom this year and beat Golston out in the rotation. I had Osa and Golston on my list of 20 players I thought the Cowboys would draft, but I had Osa going in the 4th round and Golston in the 5th. The last pick, Nahshon Wright, blows my mind. I get how he is a scheme fit for Quinn. I don't get taking him at 99. I might have gone with Jay Tufele there and used a later pick on Wright.

Round 4. Jabril Cox was absolutely a steal. I didn't think Dallas would pull the trigger on this pick after taking Parsons but Cox is one of the best LBs in this draft. To get him in the 4th was incredibly fortunate. I give the Cowboys credit to taking the gift horse. I understand there are some off the field issues with Josh Ball, but that is why he dropped to the 4th round. His issue was 3 years ago and he has been on good behavior since from what I could find out. Ball is better than Knight or Steele and in a year he could be ready to start. Again, good for Dallas to pull the trigger on a risky pick.

Round 5. I was watching NFL channel the Stanford had its pro-day. While everyone was focused on the QB, Davis Mills, Simi Fehoko was having a pretty impressive day himself. Fehoko is 6'3", 222 lbs. He ran a 4.42 40, but a 6,78 3-cone drill and 4.26 shuttle. He is not just a big guy will straight line speed. I was shocked when I saw mocks with him going in the 5th and 6th round. This guy can play, and Stanford players tend to be smart players. The Cowboys have a lot of WRs, but I expect Fehoko to be on the field on Sundays. He might be Michael Gallup's replacement next year.

Round 6. We've been saying on this board that Dallas needed a big fat guy in the middle of the defense to clog things up. Quinton Bohanna could be that guy. He's not there to rush the passer, but if he develops some push it would be icing on the cake. If he keeps offensive linemen off the LBs, he has done his job. Israel Mukuamu is another Nahshon Wright, only drafted closer to where he should have been drafted. I like the idea of big tall guys waving their arms all over the place making it hard for QBs to get a ball into smaller receivers.

Round 7. It's the 7th round and a lot of picks will get the "Who?" reaction. Matt Farniok is that guy. I am a little surprised they took offensive line here and not some special teams player, but this is as good a pick as any.

In summary, I think they Cowboys nailed rounds 4-7, did the best they could in round 2, and were boxed into a pick in the 1st. Overall, I give this draft a B but in 3 year it could be an A+. The way the draft was evolving, I thought they should have tried to trade up in round 3 to get the player they wanted. That round really sticks out. But in 2 years, Parsons, Joseph, Cox, Bohanna, Fehoko, and Odighizuwa could all be seeing significant playing time for Dallas, and Ball might be a very capable backup tackle. That is a very good draft.

Nice write up!

Round 3 was mind boggling:confused:. My 1a favorite picks are Parsons, Cox and Mukuamu. 1b is Joseph.

Least favorite are Nahshon Wright(for going way too early) and Bohanna. I see no upside in Bohanna. I doubt he makes the roster as he is so slow footed and tires easily.

Fehoko is a nice player that makes great catches in tight coverage. If you watch is film, he is always blanketed as his route running gets little separation against college DBs. I would think that will take a year to fix. As is now, Dak would rarely look his way as he will be covered. All the tools are there if he can get separation..

Thanks.

On Bohanna, we have to keep in mind he is a 6th round pick and faces an uphill battle to make the team. Who knows if they wanted another player and missed out on him. Maybe they were looking at Shelvin or Togiai to play the NT role. Both went in the 4th round after Dallas took Cox at 115 and before they picked at 138. I really expected at some point Dallas would trade up for a guy like they did with Biadasz last year, but they stayed in place and Shelvin and Togiai were picks a few spots ahead of Dallas. If felt like this happened in almost every round.
